'Citizen Koch' documentary gets distributor, heading to theaters in spring

“Citizen Koch,” the documentary about the 2011 Wisconsin protests, has secured a distributor and will appear in movie theaters nationwide this spring.

Variance Films announced Friday that it had secured the rights to distribute “Citizen Koch” in theaters. The film, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and had two sold-out shows at the Wisconsin Film Festival, looks at how the U.S. Supreme Court’s Citizen United decision opened the floodgates for unlimited corporate money to flow into third-party organizations.

In particular, the film looks at the political activity of Charles and David Koch, and how that money backed Gov. Scott Walker’s plan to strip public sector unions of most of their collective bargaining rights. The film looks at both the changing national political landscape and focuses on three Wisconsin public workers, all Republicans, who eventually join the fight to recall Walker.

“Whether you're a hard-core liberal, a recovering moderate, or a true-blue conservative, you have to admit that something is wrong — and we think 'Citizen Koch' shines a bright light directly on it,” Variance founder and president Dylan Marchetti told the Hollywood Reporter.

Timely. I think they have their cash involved in most Republican campaigns, one way or the other. libdem4life Jan 2014 #2

It is ridiculous that to run for President, the two candidates have to build an almost 1 billion dollar war chest. It is completely insane. The other day we were praising Wendy Davis who is running for Governor of Texas raising 12 million dollars (so far). Am I happy? Yes and No. Yes I am glad that she will have enough money to compete. But not happy that she has to spend that kind of money to win for a Governor job that pays 200K (at most). That just does not seem right. However, no matter what...Wendy for Governor of Texas!!!
