Rand Paul just opened a whole goddamn can of worms for himself...

On a morning show this a.m. He started ranting how Bill Clinton took advantage of a 20 year old woman who was working for him.. Feels that this is an issues which should be readdressed.

Are you fucking kidding... O.K. then, lets start examining every Racist Line which was written on his father’s newsletter beginning from its inception in 1984..

Be sure to scroll the link down to “Facts."..

Rand Paul, I’m just drooling to begin this fight..And then we can begin to talk about his father’s desire to control a woman’s reproductive choices..

Lets make this about Bill vs Ron...You stupid piece of crap.

Not to mention the reproductive choices.

Everyone who is the least bit sentient should have known that Monica would be dredged up again.
This is politics, and Bill should have kept his pants zipped. That was hubris.
As is the Third Way, now that I think about it.

eta - this has nothing to do with Obama, and everything to do with a head start on attacking possible Dem prez contenders.

If I was GOP, and wanted to dampen female enthusiasm for Hillary - since of course we ladies think and vote for lady parts, evidently - I would go after the Bill and Monica story again. And again. This is politics. Look what happened to Edwards.
Conflation is not necessary in politics, just sound and fury.

The Christie story is about abuse of power - and there are many stories suggesting a pattern of this. It is true that these stories should be proven before they become a very good, reasonable reason to say that he is not fit to be Governor - much less President.

As to Hillary, it is disgusting that you are using language that demean her as simply a candidate because she is a woman. I agree that the Republicans will go after both Hillary and Bill if she is the nominee - just as they went after Bill and Hillary in 1992, Al and Tipper in 2000, John and Teresa in 2004 and Michelle and Barak in 2008.

That, however, is NOT what happened to John Edwards. He was NEVER given the intense focus that the frontrunner and then the nominee gets. In 2007, the media actually ignored significant rumors of an affair - possibly because he was a weak third in the race, had a media "meme" as part of a perfect couple, and their was sympathy for his wife. Had he ended the affair - when he told his wife he did in December 2006, it is likely that nothing would have been written in any reputable media. (Note the child was conceived in late spring 2007 - probably a few months after Elizabeth and he told the world her cancer was back and it was stage 4.)

I agree that JUST sound and fury can make a difference - even as with the SBVT - when they are proven liars and the candidate a hero. If they resort to going after Bill's decades old transgressions, it is very hard to believe that that will make anyone contemplating voting for HRC change their mind. I think we already know far more than we want to on this.

just need their base to be energized against her. And a great deal of their base seems to lack critical thinking skills.
The Republicans I know would stick their fingers in their ears and squeal lalalalala I can't hear you! if I tried to use your excellent and logical reasoning on them.

I liked Edward's platform better than the others. But his ideas did not matter. And Hillary and Bill are billed as a perfect power couple.

Save your disgust for more important things. I was being sarcastic. The GOP will attack Hillary as a woman, and will assume that women will vote for her because she is a woman. Some right here at DU have the same assumption.

In addition to the racist stuff, he encouraged doctors not to participate in Medicare, saying it would ruin the practice of medicine and the patient/physician relationship. He was a piece of work.

I didn't even make the connection until around 2008 during the Republican primaries. I bet there are some copies of it somewhere in an archive. If it didn't come out monthly, it was at least quarterly. I remember it was handwritten a several pages long.

campaigning to the republican base is campaigning against yourself. They did this to themselves and it's a beautiful thing. Keep speaking loud and clear, Mr. Paul, you are cutting your own throat.

The only thing dumber than campaigning against Obama, who is not running for office, is campaigning against Bill Clinton, who is not only never running for office again, but enjoys a higher approval rating than Obama.

against Bill Clinton, who is not only never running for office again, but enjoys a higher approval rating than Obama.

Not dumb - Big Dog will be very visible and IMO will be touted as giving Dems two-for-one in the White House. This is why he is included in polls, even though he is not running for office.

Bill has just as much visibility as Hillary. And the GOP is not trying to sway Dem voters, they are trying to get out the GOP votes, and trying to get the libertarians and the undecideds. Those voters won't really care about Monica's age or previous relationships, either. They will just see Bill and a young intern.

I would be astonished, though, if Hillary's people are not fully aware of and planning for this sort of thing.

David Gregory asked him what Rand thought about his wife's comments. Paul should have deflected the question.

This is what his wife said:

'Kelley gives the famously dour senator something more than merely a pretty image-softener. The 50-year-old mother of three is an impassioned defender of her husband and his ideas. But she’ll also speak her own mind. While her husband jokes that his “gut feeling” that Hillary Clinton will not run for president is a good thing since “all the polls show her trouncing any opponents,” Kelley practically cuts him off to say that Bill Clinton’s relationship with Monica Lewinsky should complicate his return to the White House, even as First Spouse. “I would say his behavior was predatory, offensive to women,” she tells me.'

http://www.vogue.com/magazine/article/republican-senator-rand-paul-for-president/#3

BTW, Monica was 22, not 20 when she had a fling with Clinton. She testified that she had 9 incidents of oral sex with him from 1995 to 1997. I don't excuse Clinton for his irresponsible and stupid behavior, but Monica was no innocent. By her own admission, she was the one who seduced the president.

By the time Monica became an intern, she was having an affair with her married former high school drama teacher. An affair that lasted 5 years, until his wife found out about it. I think that Monica was a troubled girl with low self esteem issues.
