Jackie Speier: Darrell Issa like ‘toddler in a sandlot’

Rep. Jackie Speier likened Oversight Chairman Darrell Issa to a “toddler” throwing sand Wednesday, backing her fellow Democrat Rep. Elijah Cummings on the Oversight Committee after a heated exchange between the two men.

“I think the chairman showed a great deal of immaturity. It’s like a toddler in a sandlot throwing sand at others because he’s not getting his way,” the California Democrat said on MSNBC’s “Jansing & Co.” on Wednesday.

At a Wednesday committee hearing featuring former IRS official Lois Lerner about targeting of political groups, Lerner invoked her Fifth Amendment right to not testify, sparking Issa (R-Calif.) to abruptly end the hearing and cut Cummings’s (D-Md.) mic as he tried to ask more questions.

Speier said Issa was out of line.

toddlers lack impulse control. Issa knew exactly what he was doing. His "cut" gesture across his throat was particularly disturbing in its rude dismissiveness. He should be censured, but not much likelihood of that happening.

He'd best not ever be heard using the conventional form of congressional address - "My friend, Representative Cummings." If he's going to be a prick, at least don't be a hypocritical prick.

Rep. Jackie Speier is female.

She was the late U.S. Rep. Leo Ryan's aide and was shot and wounded at the same airstrip in Guyana by the Jonestown goons that killed Rep. Ryan in 1978.

Those questions would be on the record, even if she didn't answer that day.

8. Here's the thing...

If Issa wanted answers, and clearly Issa would likely cream in him pants if one of those answers pointed toward 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, he could simply grant Lerner full immunity for her testimony.

But he hasn't done that.
And he won't do that.

There's a good reason why.

It's because Issa knows fully well that Lerner has nothing of substance to say. So to keep his Kabuki Theater of the Fucking Insane going, he subpoenas Lerner every few months just to have her invoke the fifth amendment. That way Issa gets to go on Fox News and insist that she's "hiding something" when, in fact, all she's trying to do is protect herself from an lunatic.
