From "Crooks and Liars . Com".
It's my fondest wish that Bernie runs in the Democratic primary -- or the general. We have to find a way to get a more populist message through the thick skulls of the Democratic leadership. Here's part of an interview he just did for The Nation's John Nichols:
Snip..........
What you seem to be saying is that, as a presidential candidate, you would try to make the very difficult combination of not just being a personality that people would like, or at least want to vote for, but also educate people about what is possible.

(22,651 posts)I still don't think Mrs. C wants to run or E. Warren. Even if they do not run we Ds are lucky to have many good presidential material people. Plus Mrs. C and Warren will support whoever runs.

(2,088 posts)please, please, please. . .run Bernie, run! You already have my vote!

Whatever he does, I wish him the best.

Nader, hands off! You have helped the GOP enough!

(27,573 posts)While I believe that is true, I don't think it would mean much. Hillary would start moving back to the center on the day she felt she'd secured the nomination and would move further in that direction once elected. She wouldn't have to keep any campaign promises because she could say she's being pragmatic.
I'd like to see Sanders and/or Warren run but I think the influence on Hillary would not be either real or lasting.

(11,785 posts)That way, I don't have to worry about them snapping back after Election Day. Sanders has already said he doesn't want to be a spoiler candidate.

(13,616 posts)I just have no illusions about what would happen, nor any allusions that whoever the GOP puts in would somehow manage to be worse then Hillary, as appalling as that thought is.

(10,336 posts)is a spoiler. Bernie is exactly where the American people are- (and not where the party PTB pretend the people are). I don't know if it's because they are out of touch, or because their funding requires it, or what the reasons are. No matter to me. Bernie is a straight shooting, middle of the road Democrat of yore. (I realize he would have to switch parties).

(1,301 posts)Hillary definitely won't, and I'd like to believe Warren would, but......
(And yes, I know Bernie is an independent.)
DonCoquixote
(13,616 posts)frankly, do the American people deserve it, and if not them, does the rest of the world deserve it? Keep in mind, the GOP wants that war with Russian and Iran.

(13,616 posts)sitting out the next elections is exactly what the GOP wants, because they know that WORKED in 2000 and 2010. I will support Bernie in the primary, and if he beats Hillary (the way Obama beat her) great, but waiting home until the Democrats nominate an angel will only ensure the GOP gets more people to show.
There is a very good reason why Rush Limbaugh encouraged people to give to Nader, and it was the same reason I heard a bunch of self-described "leftists" whip off their mask after Election Day and call into WFLA Tampa, bragging about how they manipulated the Naderites into being their pawns. Go ahead and say nader did not cost us the Election, not only do the numbers testify, but I have had to see this same trick be pulled again and again, because the GOP knows it WORKS!

(10,336 posts)you read something I did not say. I am not sitting out the next election, I have never missed one in 30 years.

(39,369 posts)He's not running against Hillary in any primaries unless he joins the Democratic Party. Seems most/many people here don't realize this.

(22,651 posts)Republicans do the same thing when they have a stage full of their RW extremists 'running for president'.

(24,406 posts)Is he running as a Democrat in the 2016 then? Or as a 3rd-Party candidate as I thought that he was an Independent/Socialist?

(3,544 posts)He is an independent. There is no doubt in my mind I would think he would be an excellent candidate, however, being an independent that leans to the left, may cause any democratic candidate to lose, and give it to the right. That would be disastrous. To think that Bernie can win is pretty far fetched at this time. I love the guy to death, but history has proven what happens to independents in the past. Even Ross Perot couldn't do it.
Simple solution. He needs to run on the ticket as a Democrat.

(4,651 posts)and i feel that he is doing a great job in the senate and should continue doing that. Also as far as the presidency goes i franky think he is too old...as a geezer myself i hate to say this but by
the time he would be sworn in he would be in his mid 70s which i think is pushing it for POTUS...
SmittynMo
(3,544 posts)I think he can win then. Warren would be an excellent choice.

(5,306 posts)But the reality is in a national presidential election he has only a slightly better chance of winning than Ted Cruz.
