VA GOP has less than $70K on hand.

http://www.newsleader.com/article/20140327/NEWS01/303270007/Virginia-GOP-has-less-than-70-000-hand

RICHMOND — The Republican Party of Virginia has fallen short of cash in the wake of fall elections that went into overtime and left the GOP without any statewide officeholder to help it drum up donations.

Finances for both parties always swing wildly in a state that has an election every year, with both Democrats and Republicans starting each cycle in fundraising mode and blowing through the bulk of that cash by Election Day.

But the GOP has less than $70,000 on hand between its state and federal accounts, compared with more than $230,000 available to the Democratic Party of Virginia, public records show.

I'm posting this in politics 2014 as an early example of the demographic change that is finally beginning to show up in real-world politics. Virginia holds its main state officeholder elections in off-off years--2013, this time--so sometimes it can be used as an indicator of things to come.

It's true, Virginia Republicans were exceptionally disgusting last year, but I simply consider that to be an indicator of future Republican trends, as well.

But notice how the trend is working: from the top down. Now, Republicans cannot win statewide races in Virginia anymore--no Senators, no Governors, no Presidential candidates. That's largely thanks to the GOP treating Virginia women as a minority, and thus splitting half of every demographic group against them.

Nevertheless, the GOP has an iron grip on the Virginia legislature, and won't give it up until after the next census (2020) at the soonest... unless their base dies out on them, which I'm seeing happen at an alarming rate.

Soon, I think, we're going to see state legislatures start trying to steal elections, because that's all Republicans will be able to do.

Virginians aren't getting any less desperate the longer Republicans have a grip on the Commonwealth, and Republicans are going to have to become more oppressive in order to suppress turnout.

Sooner or later some a-hole Republican is going to tell Virginians to eat cake, and then it's on.
