Related: About this forumHillary Clinton Goes to Bat for GMOs at Biotech Conference
Speaking at a conference in San Diego last week for the world's largest trade organization of biotechnology firms, potential presidential candidate Hillary Clinton backed GMOs and Big Ag, further displaying her allegiance to the industry in the eyes of sustainable food and organic advocates.
While trumpeting her endorsement of GMO seeds when she served as Secretary of State, Clinton told the crowd that the term "'genetically modified' sounds Frankensteinish," and thus turns people off to GMOs. "Drought resistant sounds really like something you'd want," she said, encouraging the industry to improve their semantics. Theres a big gap between the facts and what the perceptions are.
Clinton's certainty concerning the safety of GMO foods stands in stark contrast to public opinion. A Consumer Reports poll in June found that 92 percent of Americans favor labeling the foods.

Sometimes I question myself as to what website this really is at times. So much Foxx
Noise style posting throws me into a discouraging posture. I sense that it the mission overall...to disrupt democratic thinking and discussion.

(12,309 posts)Actually, totally against GMO's food source. I find the OP and link at Common Dreams to use the " gotcha" tone like foxx noise which essentially non- productive and inflammatory... End result... Story is ignored.

(16,149 posts)touch. I guess that's what happens when you've spent 22 years hob-knobbing with the TBTF in Washington, DC. I tell you, that place is deeply corrupting.
DC is a racket

(24,399 posts)Is she turning off LGBTs? Is she turning off women? Minorities? WHO? How? Where is the evidence for this assertion? Just because she doesn't support or oppose all of the "right" things doesn't mean that she is turning off large swaths of the electorate and/or Democratic Party groups.

(5,792 posts)I will not vote for her. E coli in a petri dish with dna from seeds owned (almost 70%) by Monsanto and the gang. Heard she used to be on the Board of Monsanto. Don't know if true. But guess I'll vote for Mr. Sanders. There is a lot of people out here she just lost.
