(8,434 posts)As a voter in Cantors district my whole family has voted religiously. We celebrated the night of the primary because our vote finally counted.
When the district is rigged so badly that a 100% Dem turnout can't overcome a 40% Pub turnout gotv means squat.
Am I saying not to encourage the vote? Absolutely not, however bringing fair district lines back is far mor important.

(5 posts)The original post said EXPLICITLY "democratic voters". If they don't vote for democrats, then by definition, they are not "democratic voters".
How difficult is that??

My point is, that if all the Democratic voters turn out, we win every time. Blaming election losses on Democratic voters who don't turn out, is in my humble opinion, misguided. If candidates provide good reasons to do so, the voters will show up.
If a candidate's entire campaign is based on "Republicans are awful" then it's the candidate who deserves the blame for not inspiring voters, not the voters fault for not showing up. "Lesser of two evils" just isn't that inspiring.
As you may have gathered from what I wrote here, I don't agree that "Democratic voters" can't include some who always vote Democratic when they vote, but don't always vote.
Finally, thanks so very much for pointing out what you perceive as my reading limitations. I found your criticism quite helpful.

(22,651 posts)I really wish we had a way to have our vote without any state or local interference. Our one vote is the only real 'democracy' we have left.
And the county for every state was the minimum district for votes, with all that counties elected sitting as a group of directors.
Or go the way of NZ, everyone votes, its the law. people can vote the 'no choice' if they want.
