and all the corruption and bribery on the part of the rich that goes along with it. It's not right
to simply lie down like a carpet and let them walk all over us. I'm not for just giving up.

We've got to make our numbers count. Correct?

their propaganda and lies.

That's why I'm trying to get DU members interested in getting wealthy Democrats, who
are known to be philanthropists, to join together in funding a large, independent news
media company that will help spread the truth. "America is half-starved to death for a
news media source that is truly Independent..." is the title of a thread I've written, and
it's the same page as this thread.

We've got to fight back in as many ways as we can possibly find.

and with no profit in mind -- just covering the expenses of running the company would be enough....
I realize it will be an uphill struggle all the way. We should try again This is a highly worthwhile
project -- our freedom is at stake. I hope Al Gore will be willing to try again, this time joining
in with many other wealthy Dems.

wealthy supporters could fund a quality, consistent & accessible independent news outlet. ('The Patriotic Millionaires' group with Nick Hanauer might be a source). I hope it would be online as well as on affordable TV, Radio & in magazine format. It's a lot to ask but much needed. (I like 'Yes!' Magazine published quarterly in print & online from Seattle with interesting progressive issues articles & some political, economic news).

We've been killed by RW Republican Hate Radio & TV for 20+ years, the influence & damage are evident. They're also FREE, ACCESSIBLE on most all FM radio channels now, like FREE, ACCESSIBLE FOX TV. Heard all over US in homes, offices, stores, motels, trucks & cars. In some places the Only 'news'. MSNBC isn't free.

The impact of corporate & RW media is underestimated & plenty of Americans are unaware of the bias, emptiness of M$M- TV & print- even much of PBS except terrific Bill Moyers who I think's leaving in Jan. How many know to search alternate news Online like DU, Truthout, AlterNet, Daily Kos, Think Progress, more. Internet service also co$ts, many are barely getting by with economic basics now.

FSTV (Free Speech TV) is a godsend we found by accident. Thom H., Amy Goodman, Mike Papantonio & great documentaries on DISH, DIRECT, some cable. TH is how I found DU & other sites. Likewise some progressive, left Radio is out there, but mostly online or through Sirius XM subscription that co$ts & a bit difficult to find IMO. We absolutely need Independent Media and soon. It's been way too long.

N. did a great piece in Politico last July/Aug. 'The Pitchforks are Coming for US' as an appeal to fellow wealthy & an earlier TED talk-perhaps you saw. Good to know you are interested and thinking about this, there are a few of us out there! How some seem unconcerned, underestimate the impact of propaganda or content relying on the free internet, for now, is beyond me.
Don't know if the M. Group has been approached about something like this. It's a big endeavor, but something has to change, and this country has the money. (Gore's attempt doesn't mean the absolute end either). FSTV that is on DISH, DIRECT, some cable and online would be the logical channel to expand it seems. Am sure this has been considered. Anyway, good luck and keep us posted.

it isn't so easy to do so in the USA. It took Hitler only 12 years. Our fascists have been at
it quite a bit longer, but our democracy has also been here much longer. My guess is that
they didn't pounce when Bush, Jr. was president, because they weren't sure of carrying out
a successful coup at that time. But the next time they have all three branches of government
under their thumb, they very well might.
