Republican State Senator: Muslim Americans Shouldn't be Protected by U.S. Constitution

http://bluevirginia.us/diary/12691/virginia-state-sen-steve-martin-muslim-americans-shouldnt-be-protected-by-us-constitution

Asked whether or not Muslim Americans' "religion, culture and laws be protected under the Constitution," State Senator Steve Martin (R-VA) answers:

"No, it won't Karen. Because life and liberty are governments' first two responsibilities - both of which their "religion" opposes. They celebrate death. We celebrate life. They celebrate denial of liberty. We celebrate liberty restrained by virtue."

2. Not so long ago this sort of statement would have generated some outrage.

Now days it is just ho hum Republican bigotry. It does help me respect Sarah Palin's creativity photographing her son using the family dog as a stool. Newer more creative ways are always available to Republicans to express disdain for humanity.

Painting an entire religion and its people with one homicidal brush and then going home to adulation by the folks that voted him in....and little push back....free speech protects it all.

why it is ever more imperative to bring the concept of separation of church and state up front and center on a regular basis. Religious freedom has traditionally been defined as freedom to practice what one believes to the degree that it brings no harm to others or violates the rights of others - individually included. That's how I understand the idea that has been traditionally practiced here, trying to impose the religious beliefs/practices of one faction upon another should not be tolerated, period.

How hard is that?

It seems too many Christians are in a hurry to die and want to take away the liberty of others.

Because guess what state senator Fuckwad? Liberty restrained by virtue alone - is what leads to a fanatical dictatorship. Now how about that? I bet he if fucking clueless to the level of irony in his statement.

Better yet, I bet he is clueless. Period.
