2016 Postmortem

(WASHINGTON) -- At a time when many potential 2016 presidential contenders appear to be starting the ignition of their campaigns, Hillary Clinton has pressed the brake pedal.
Or so it seems.
Clintons calendar, which was jam-packed throughout most of last year with paid speeches, award ceremonies, fundraisers, book tour stops, campaign appearances and official Clinton Foundation business, is now virtually empty.
Over the past six weeks, the likely Democratic presidential candidate has made just two public appearances -- both on the same day, and both in Canada. She doesnt have another event scheduled until late next month.
Although Clinton still insists she hasnt decided whether shell run, it is widely believed that she will, and an announcement is expected this spring.
Until then, Clinton appears to be lying low and staying out of the public eye. Meanwhile, much of the focus has turned toward potential Republican candidates like Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush and Rand Paul. A dozen others tested out their possible stump speeches at a summit in Iowa last weekend.

(34,661 posts)Appears there will be a major kick off in the next ninety days. Looks like the Campaign Structure is being filled out. Have not seen anything locally as far as office space of staff procurement. Anyone know if HRC and advisers going with the 13 state strategy or are they going 50 or bust.

(30,247 posts)The length of time we take in this country to choose a president is just ridiculous. So much time and money is wasted. Why do we need to know in January of 2015 who is running for president in November 2016?
Let the Republicans duke it out among themselves before we throw our candidates to the wolves.

(22,000 posts)the spring. I believe she declared before Obama did (though I can't remember exactly).
The other advantage is the longer she waits, the more she ties up the field. Certain people won't run against her and will stay out of the race if they think she's going to run. I think if she declares in March or April it won't be that big of an impact. If she waits longer it could be.

(30,247 posts)Other than the fact that Clinton and Epstein were friends. No one has accused Clinton of being involved in any of the sex romps that Epstein held on his island and at his Palm Beach mansion. What's more, the woman who made the allegations against Epstein and Prince Andrew has testified in court papers that she never slept with Bill nor saw him participate in any sex escapade in the years that she was used as an underage sex slave by Epstein.
