The vast right-wing conspiracy is still real. Also, the media is really stupid

Fake scandals consume the news cycle. The real scandals go uncovered and unremarked. Our press is officially a joke

STEVE ALMOND

Let me start by admitting, upfront, how truly fucking boring I find the Hillary Clinton e-mail story. Not only is it unclear whether the former Secretary of State and future presidential candidate did anything illegal, but the fact that she’s willing to turn her emails over to the State Department casts doubt on the Republican fever dream that her now-infamous private in-box will contain mash notes from foreign donors to her husband’s foundation, or explicit instructions to her underlings to shred vital documents related to the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi, Libya.

It’s not a non-story, exactly. It’s more like a fishing expedition, a la Whitewater and Travelgate and the Clinton Christmas card list.

The primary motive of such stories isn’t really to root out genuine instances of moral turpitude. It’s to retail a narrative of insinuation that sells newspapers and baits clicks, one that the press has been working for three decades solid when it comes to the Clintons.

Emailgate (as it will surely be dubbed) is a story that arises from confirmation bias—without the confirmation of wrongdoing. Because the media have portrayed the Clintons as slippery and secretive for so many years—masters of the massive cover-up!—we should all assume that Hillary doing business on her private email is slippery and secretive and evidence of some massive cover-up.

...

Anyway, the latest debacle, MSM and TeaParTY attempt to smear Hillary has changed me from a passive, reluctant supporter to a major supporter.

I mean if Bernie runs I am going to work for him, for sure, but eventually I would be working for Hillary unless there is a miracle.

One thing I dont do is call it boring, it is not boring, when I hear that I think of the TeaParTY assholes who when confronted with serious crimes by their heroes like Christie, they call it boring, so I dont say that.

But it is an invented scandal, it is being pushed by the MSM and TeaParTY including people here at DU.

These misogynist racist punk assholes cant imagine 8 years of a BLACK DEMOCRAT and then 8 years of a FEMALE DEMOCRAT as president.

I honestly believe some of them will go completely insane.

We have to remember, most of the TeaParTY house and senate members are people who in the real world you wouldnt want washing your car, they might scratch it, because they are dumb.

"a secret plan by a group to do something unlawful or harmful is the definition of conspiracy.

The thing is, it isn't even a secret at this point.

It is blatant, out in the open and just accepted reality - Rs can and will do ANYTHING and not be held accountable. Ds get racked over the coals for non issues.

It is stating the obvious that Rs are jackasses, but the biggest problem is the Ds. There is NO fight there, no pushback, not counter strikes, no attacking the OBVIOUS bullshit ...

era, very similar things were accruing. Tons of Yellow Journalism abound, recall anyone who criticized the Tail Gunner(early version of Bill O'Liele)would be burned on OpEd pages of the Milwaukee Journal and the Superior Wisconsin Newspapers. Stories accusing Democratic Congressmen and Senators of being Communists because they dare challenge what McCarty was doing. Many of us who watched McCarthy and other Republicans destroy innocent people, are seeing the same tactics with a tweak, being used today.

is not only boring, but I also don't get why I (as a private citizen) should care about it, and how this is relevant to my life. People (even on "liberal" MSNBC) are talking about how this might "tarnish" HC, but right now I'm feeling like... "who gives a damn?" She didn't do anything illegal. Surely there other things in the country and the world to talk about that actually impact people. Even the NSA's surveillance program was a more interesting story.
