Looking at the MD US House delegation- Edwards,Van Hollen,and Cummings are going to run.
Sarbanes is likely to run in 2018- his father's old seat-assuming Cardin decides to retire.
Edwards should be Mikulski's sucessor and it would be great if Mikulski endorses her.

I'm now a constituent of Van Hollen, who is better funded than Edwards, and already has backing from Dem higher ups. I am not sure how I'd vote in a primary, or whether I should send $ to Edwards. You think Cummings will run?

Both she and Cummings, unlike Van Hollen, have connections to the Progressive Caucus. (Cummings is listed on their webpage as a member; Edwards own webpage states her membership - can't understand why she isn't listed.)

It is obvious that Van Hollen will have the funding - but Edwards and Cummings should have the turnout due to the passion that they invoke. My only hope is that Edwards and Cummings don't cancel each other out and give the win to Van Hollen. I was a member of many local progressive groups in Montgomery County - some affiliated with the Democratic Party, others not. But all were not that impressed with Van Hollen and thought he could/should have done more...moved out of Maryland in 2010 but I loved/still love the area.

I know more about Van Hollen, he was my congress critter before they redistricted. But if one of them gets the Senate seat, I want the other one in the house.

extremely (since 2010) dated knowledge of Maryland politics, I would throw Jamie Raskin's name into the ring. He was a state senator and (I believe) was Obama's state campaign manager. I recall Raskin doing many fine things in the State Senate among others a farm to school lunch program initiative. Used to run into Raskin at the YMCA in Silver Spring. But because Raskin would be from the Montgomery County area - not certain if he could run in a Edwards or Cummings districts.

And Van Hollen is Montgomery County. Of course, he could be in the seat that we just lost too. Delaney took that seat, and lost it in the last election to a repuke.

we have both seats. He defeated then 10-term Republican incumbent Roscoe Bartlett, and was reelected. Andy Harris may be the only repug in the MD caucus.

7. Delaney won it in 2010

I thought he lost it in 2012, but I just looked it up and it must have changed. I never checked after election day, and I thought it was possible after Hogan won the Governor race.

I was unhappy at how close the turn out was.

However, I must admit, that I am still not enthused by Delaney and miss having Edwards being my congress person.

14. Edwards is in PG County. Van Hollen represents Montgomery County. He is my congressman.

We are in greater danger of losing his seat to a Republican. PG County seat is quite reliably Democratic. But I also think she represents a very, very small segment of Anne Arundel County, but the segment of is also reliably Democratic and center-left. (I believe bordering a city called Bowie.)

The wealthy whites who live in MoCo, even if they are Democrats, will and did vote for a "liberal" Republican for many years before Van Hollen finally won. Her name was Connie Morrella. She won because on social issues, she was fairly liberal, but on economic issues, she represented what wealthy Republicans and Democrats who dominate Montgomery County both want: lower taxes, but strong economic barriers in the form of high housing prices and sale taxes that keep low-income families (read: black people) out of their wealthy neighborhoods. (Yes, white liberals can be racist, too!!)

So election after election, they'd vote for Connie Morella until finally she was defeated in 2006 when Democrats took back the House. Her political career ended.

Meanwhile, Donna Edwards fought against a DLCer named Al Wynn--a corrupt motherfucker who also couldn't keep it in his pants. Though she lost to Wynn in 2006, his margin of victory was less than 2,000 votes. She beat him in 2008--and beat him overwhelmingly!! I think he thought about running against her in 2010, but realized that she would beat him soundly.

There is absolutely not question that Donna Edwards should be Mikulski's successor. I love Elijah dearly, but we need him in the House Judiciary, taking it to Darrell "The Crook" Issa! And we also need Van Hollen's leadership in the House. We cannot afford to lost another one of our leaders in the House.

That is when Van Hollen took over the seat. He was my congress critter too before they redistricted to get rid of Roscoe Bartlett. I haven't been real happy with Delaney, would like to see Van Hollen back. Delaney came close to losing the seat in the last election to Boingino, I think that was his name.

I remember making get-out-the-vote calls for Montgomery County Democrats and getting an argument with a man who insisted Connie Morella wasn't a Republican.

As for Van Hollen and the prospects for winning a vigorously competitive primary, I wouldn't count him out. Same thing with Montgomery County's demographics and voting habits. It's not for nothing that Hogan has been openly contemptuous.

It'll come down to the party's machine guy(Van Hollen) and the black vote in the state(Cummings and Edwards) if Edwards and Cummings both stay in it'll probably split the black vote and Van Hollen will win.

Sarbanes wins due to high name recognition- father is former U.S. Senator and he will coalesce support mainly in the Baltimore Suburbs while Van Hollen and Delaney split the DC Suburbs vote.

Tradition favors Sarbanes- Since 1976 US Senators Sarbanes,Mikulski,and Cardin were US Reps from MD-3 CD.
Assuming that Kennedy Townsend,Mizeur,and Rawlings Blake don't run, Donna Edwards could win with the black and white female vote.
Van Hollen is the front runner due to 1.7 million dollars COH.
