UPDATED: Aaron Schock, Politically Dead at 33

Jackie Kucinich

The handsome congressman had an astounding fall from grace—but don’t assume he was the only one cheating taxpayers.

Aaron Schock painted his office to look like landed gentry, but at the end a series of damaging stories he was reminded he was a public servant.

And as of March 31, he won’t even have that title.

Schock’s sudden resignation on Tuesday ended a 44-day free fall from power that began after a reporter from The Washington Post noticed his brightly hued-office made to look like the set of Downton Abbey.
The extreme office makeover was paid for not by the congressman, but with public money—like $40,000 worth.

UPDATE:

Rep. Schock's Dad: 'Two Years From Now He’ll Be Successful, If He’s Not In Jail'

Disgraced Rep. Aaron Schock's (R-IL) father said Wednesday that he believes his son will emerge unscathed from the storm of ethical and legal problems plaguing him -- unless he winds up in jail.

"If they're going to convict him on paperwork, they're going to convict him. That's their privilege," Dr. Richard Schock told Chicago TV station WLS. "If it's the law, and he broke the law and they want to convict him on that -- fine."

The congressman announced Tuesday that he would resign effective March 31. He cited weeks of media inquiries into his finances as "a great distraction that has made it too difficult for me to serve the people of the 18th District with the high standards that they deserve and which I have set for myself."

The congressman's father told the news station that he himself had been audited by the IRS several times, so he knew something of what his son was going through. He then suggested his son may have broken the law with respect to mileage reimbursement.

They never really die. He will do his purgatory on Fox and other RW shows, and mea culpa and all that, and after people have forgotten, he'll be back....

Got a feeling there are several more shoes that will drop.

He avoids the planned House Ethics Committee investigation - but still not clear legally. Ask Jesse Jackson, Jr.

In fact, one of the things Schock said in response to questions about his spending speaks to this point. Politico wrote: “In a comment sure to enrage his Capitol Hill colleagues, he argued that if the media spent time digging into the spending of other lawmakers—like they have his—reporters would ‘find a story to write about any member of Congress.’”

Fine by me, let's start getting the rest of them to resign too.

Illinois is famous for giving crooked politicians a second chance. In Chicago people have come straight from prison to reclaim their job.

A wretched human. I can't wait for my next conservative Republican douchebag. If it's Ray LaHood's son, it won't be as bad.
