2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumPresident Obama forces Republican politicians to eat their own words (VIDEO)
President Obama continues his new stride as he chides Republicans for their failed prognostications. Democratic politicians encouraged his silence during the 2014 elections. Imagine what could have been if Americans had realized they had something to vote for. Imagine if Americans had believed that those pushing a relatively progressive agenda believed in that agenda and was willing to fight for that agenda.
Back in January President Obama chided Republicans for their new found love for the American poor and the American middle class. On Wednesday he did more than that. He pointed out how off base Republican willful deceptive prognostication of his policies were.
Now, I want to return to the issue of the debate that we were having then because it bears on the debate were having now. Its important to note that at every step that we've taken over the past six years we were told our goals were misguided; they were too ambitious; that my administrations policies would crush jobs and explode deficits, and destroy the economy forever. Remember that? Because sometimes we dont do the instant replay, we dont run the tape back, and then we end up having the same argument going forward.

(12,882 posts)Today and EVERY day until the 2016 elections. EVERY DAY, there should be one of these Right-wing RUBES in a video clip, prognosticating the doom and gloom we're supposed to be wallowing in RIGHT NOW! Then follow that clip with the realities of today - the realities of the times that those nay-sayers were predicting about.
SHOW how STUPID their crystal balling really was / is. EVERY FRIGGIN DAY THIS SHOULD BE OUT THERE IN THE FACES OF PROSPECTIVE VOTERS!

(22,666 posts)like you describe. Especially during election season.
WHY do Democrats not toot their own horns? They've plenty of successes - historical and recent - to crow about. They should be doing it!

(12,882 posts)There was that trio of clips of FDR that's run thru DU this past week (not for the first time, of course) that could be used in a point - counterpoint spot(s). Then have some Rethug legislators going on about changing voting requirements, counterpointed by Democratic president Johnson signing voting rights into law - or counterpointed by the ACTUAL number of voter fraud cases that have been found. Or again - just the individual points shown in the video of this thread. - Boehner asking "Where's the jobz?" and then Obama answering him with the FACTS of today.
About a dozen or so of those point-counterpoint ads thru the run up to election day. Instead of the same tired thirty seconds worth of pie-inna-sky BS for whoever the hopeful turns out to be.
DUH....... and to think I wasted my working years using my hands to make my way!

(3,557 posts)He did our country a huge disservice by trying to go "middle of the road" and trying to work with republicans for all of those years.
I mentioned this in another thread, but when Obama acts and talks more liberal, his approval ratings climb. The more he goes to the center and tries to work with republicans (who will never work with him under any condition) the lower his approval goes.
Please keep talking and calling the republicans out on their bullshit! It's the best thing he can do for our country!!

(65,227 posts)Dems, most at least who are in positions of power and influence, kept telling him to lie low, and they of course were not going to talk about things they were telling him to stay quiet about.
Bill Mahr talks about the Republican "bubble," but the D.C. (Beltway) bubble is almost as insular where the Dems are concerned.
