2016 Postmortem

The GOP is just about toast.
Covered California numbers are out and shown as a success, much like in Mass. The GOP will be seen as the LIARS that they are by voters.
The GOP will then in 2016's election bids spout about how ObamaCare is actually ROMNEY Care and that Republicans were only fighting about additional spending or trying to "make it less government run" - which it is not, only more lies.
The Republican-lead House has now voted more than 50 times to repeal it... hard to defend those votes as a mistake. Citizens in GOP lead states that have no ACA health insurance exchanges are now taking a closer look at just how good of a job their Congressmen are doing... POORLY is the answer.
ObamaCare is going to be the fatal blow to the GOP that will take a beating for 10 or 15 years.
It's a NO WIN situation for the GOP. To paraphrase Grover Norquist: it won't be long before the GOP "is shrunk down to the size where we can drown it in the bathtub."

(11,175 posts)Reagan campaigned on a platform of big tax cuts, big boosts in military spending, and a balanced budget. George H. W. Bush correctly pointed out that this was "voodoo economics", but to no avail. Reagan won the nomination, won the election, and implemented his proposals, resulting in record-breaking deficits.
That's why, when Reagan ran for re-election, his Democratic opponent carried 49 states? Uh, no. Reagan was easily re-elected and then even saw his Vice President win the next election -- the first time the Republicans had won three in a row since 1920-1924-1928.
In response to any attempt at a serious discussion of health care policy, Republicans will resort to fear-mongering about concocted threats. It will work. The Republicans will remain a competitive party, i.e., not winning all the time but winning often.

(3,384 posts)and Americans are perfectly familiar with the GOP's votes against something that all Americans will find as a solution to a long term problem.
The tide is turning and it doesn't look good for the GOP in the long run.

(24,353 posts)IF it survives the latest assassination attempt at SCOTUS, I'm sure that the RWNJs will come up with another legal avenue to try to doom it and if Republicans hold on to Congress and grabs the WH in 2016, they could do some real damage to the law if not fulfill their wishes to get rid of it and then who knows when somebody will be able to try to do healthcare reform again. I fear that the fight to eliminate will continue for some time and they haven't been punished for their efforts to take it away from people so far. Progressive achievement in this country is a long and frustrating process.

(3,384 posts)Republicans are stupid, but THAT stupid?
Plus, insurance companies LOVE ObamaCare!
The GOP is scared sh**less that the SCOTUS is going to take the mistake in the law literally and kill the Fed Exchange system in states that didn't set up an exchange. Voters are going HATE the GOP.
Hence, my original point.

(24,353 posts)If SCOTUS rules in favor of the plaintiffs in this case but a.)Most teabaggers will be happy to see the law gutted and will want the law gutted even further. b.)Even if some Republicans might want to fix the law to restore subsidies, teabaggers will savage them if they try (and they listen to the teabaggers more). c.)Progressive voters may or may not GOTV to elect a Congress/POTUS to fix it.
