Bernie is making little headway in national polls but is coming up fast in NH and Iowa. I doubt he can last but he can make it interesting.

If he can't get liberals like me behind him, he just can't get close. He's an avowed socialist and that tag will damage him. He's our Tea Party. I want to win and get SCOTUS totally on our side. Hillary is the pathway there.
I hope Bernie does well enough and then endorses Hillary.

read up on it and learn something.

(22,271 posts)Maybe you could help enlighten "the average voter" now that you're knowledgeable with regard to the difference between socialism and Democratic Socialism. See? Wasn't that easy?
Le Taz Hot
(22,271 posts)which means we keep our current Democratic form of government but with things like Social Security and Medicare along with free pubic college tuition, single payer health care and many other programs that are desperately needed. Now that you know the difference, perhaps you'll stop pushing the same bullshit. But I'm guessing not.

(1,415 posts)If you think you can turn Bernie into an electable mainstream Democrat through a civics lesson, patiently explaining to Middle Amercica the difference between "socialist" and "socialist Democrat," you are in trouble. He's not even a Democrat. I'm curious, do you really think he has any chance at all? Do you think he can carry Florida or Ohio or any swing state, for that matter?
Le Taz Hot
(22,271 posts)I do believe he has the momentum and WAY more than a "chance." Hillary is a certain loser to the GOP.

(10,007 posts)I have no kind words for this bullshit. He can't get "liberals" like you behind him because "liberals" like you are clueless.

(3,431 posts)People like Bernie but are sure he cannot win. I understand
that argument only if you have 100% proof that HRC will
win.
In my opinion both of them might lose for different
reasons, and because of that I support the one
candidate who is willing to take on Wall Street as
well as the banks.
Maedhros
(10,007 posts)They tack "I like Bernie, but" to the beginning of their disingenuous bullshit post so as to convey the illusion that they are truly concerned about Bernie's campaign.
They don't like Bernie - they are HRC attack bots.
I am a long way from a Hillary attack bot...did you read the article? I just don't think Bernie can possibly win. I DO think Hillary can lose. But I think she is the only Democrat who can win.
I like Bernie just fine. But the only way to beat the GOP is the way the Dems have always done it since FDR....with mainstream Dems like Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, JFK and Barack Obama. No flat out liberal has won or can win.
I'm happy to engage in a discussion...but why the name calling and rudeness? My referring to Bernie as a left analogy to the Tea Party simply means that he is very liberal, just like Ted Cruz is very conservative...and neither have a chance with mainstream America. Single payer health care? We barely got Obamacare through and that was when we had 59/60 Senators!!!!!
sadoldgirl
(3,431 posts)will be able to do anything of substance, but you
might have noticed that the tide is turning in
the country.
Even the judgement of congressional members
by the public shows total disgust, because most
of them don't stand up for what the people want.
That includes the democratic party.
I do not know, what a debate between HRC and
Bush or Walker would be like, because unfortunately
she just does not shine in those.
However, I can see Bernie in the debates destroying
either one of those two.
tgards79
(1,415 posts)You are right, I agree, Hillary is not much of a debater. Neither is Bush or Walker. But she is certainly going to be very prepared and will not do what Obama did, that is, get crushed in the first debate because he was bored. And she only needs to hold serve.
Of all the US Senators, Bernie is by far the most left. He's not even a Democrat. These are huge liabilities in the general election. Can you imagine anyone voting for Mike Enzi or Ted Cruz? Of course not. But that's how middle America would feel about Bernie on the other side. Center-left and center-right campaigns win every time.

(46,179 posts)I've watched as better candidates get lost early, leaving me with nothing left but those I have no interest in by the time my primary arrives...again and again.
And why? Because they don't do as well in Iowa and NH, so don't get the backing to continue their campaigns so that the rest of the nation has a chance to weigh in.
And that drives me fucking NUTS.
Perhaps Bernie is making little headway in national polls because he hasn't broadened his focus just yet, and, if he can nail NH and Iowa, that's okay. There's plenty of time.
tgards79
(1,415 posts)...that his key to national poll numbers is doing well in Iowa and NH...and I think he can. But I don't think he has the money to do well in the long haul and his far left views will not play well with middle America. And please be clear, I am a Democrat and not a "Hillary attack bot!" I favor Hillary at this point because I think she can win and I am truly scared by GOP control of the Presidency and Congress (and SCOTUS). All they need is to appoint one Alito to replace RBG and it all goes down the drain. I can't take that risk.
LWolf
(46,179 posts)will really help with his funding, and I honestly don't think what he's offering up is all that "far left." He has moderate views which are being hammered here on DU in an effort to make HRC seem more faux left than she is, and his focus on economics is hitting all the 99% right where we live.
