2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhat we need to do!
Over the last 6 years, Ive been following DU on a daily basis without really contributing much of anything. Today Ive decided to compose my thoughts in the current light of this political year.
On Januarys opening day of the new Senate in 2009, Mitch McConnell stated that his primary goal was to defeat President Obama in any way he could. Over the last 3+ years he has demonstrated his goal very clearly. His wish to change the political climate in Washington has had a terrible effect on the economics of this nation. Yet there are very few discussions in the media on what has happened and who really is to blame. There are exceptions, but for the most part the media has spent more time on the Presidents ability to not get laws passed that will help this nation. They seem to want to blame him for the lack of support he gets from the Congress. If the Democrats are to gain control we need to send the message to all wholl listen. The Republicans for the most part are responsible for the mess were in not the President. We need to repeat this fact over and over again with concrete examples. Otherwise we will be entering a terrible phase of this country. Just looking at the alternatives is horrifying.
The manipulation of the money going into elections is horrifying, the voter suppression in many states unjust, and the attack on equal rights of women cannot be understated. What we need is a full blown war on the Republicans who have made this country a sad place to live.
Lets fight the battle together!

(2,307 posts)Obama went in with hopes of change. He TRIED to work with congress but was blocked at every turn. Then he got blamed for not working with congress.
For Republicans they are willing to compromise as long as the Democrats go with what the Republicans want.
Obama gets blamed for everything. Even things which were causes by Bush, the Republican, other countries, simply everything.
Obama is also judged by a different set of rules as the Republicans. They are counting his employment numbers including 20 days of the Bush administration but they don't start counting Romney as governor until two years into his term.
They interpret any economic news as bad.
