Hammond replaces Bopp on RNC -- This is big!

Behind Closed Doors: Hammond replaces Bopp on RNC

Here's what's turning heads: Hammond, who is close to Gov. Mitch Daniels and is adept at raising political cash, defeated conservative legal icon Jim Bopp, a Terre Haute attorney who had sought re-election.

Bopp has served as an RNC member since 2006, and he has made waves by proposing or supporting proposals intended to move the RNC in a more conservative direction.

Among them: a Republican litmus test that Bopp proposed two years ago. It would have required Republican candidates to meet at least eight of 10 core principles to receive financial support from the party. They included opposing amnesty for illegal immigrants, opposing government funding of abortion and opposing same-sex marriage.

Don't forget to read the "White House intrigue" part about Eric Holder.

No doubt the name "Bopp" worked against him. I suspect that some people just can't take yellowcanine Jun 2012 #4

The incident also sparked a "chest to chest" confrontation between Axelrod and Holder over whether Holder had been telling people that the White House was trying to improperly influence the Justice Department.

You'd have to be tone-deaf to not feel the occasional tension between WH and Justice. It reminds me a lot of the sense of things during the Clinton-Reno days, though much less "fraught."
