Poll: Giffords' aide leads in Ariz. special election

By Susan Davis, USA TODAY
Updated 17m ago

An aide to former representative Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., appears to have the edge heading into Tuesday's special election for a Tucson-area congressional district to serve out Giffords' term. She resigned from the U.S. House in January to focus on her recovery from a 2011 shooting.

Democrat Ron Barber is leading Republican Jesse Kelly 53%-41% among likely voters, according to a poll released today by the left-leaning Public Policy Polling, which said the data suggest "Democrats are unusually motivated to come out and to keep Giffords' seat in their hands." The non-partisan Cook Political Report rates the race as competitive but said a Kelly victory would be considered the upset on Tuesday.

I'd have fallen off my chair if I hadn't been leaning on my desk.

Good job, AZ Dems. Now, do you think we could do the same thing with Dr. Carmona? We need to make "motivated" normal enough among Arizona Dems that we could trade in "unusually" to "reliably".

And there was not one mention of any poll, made it sound like the race was a tossup.
