Let's Give the Republicans Something to Worry About

FDR was our last 4 time elected president then the office was changed to only allow a person to serve as president 2 terms. Lets start a petition to go back to the 4 term allowance. That'll drive Republicans crazy. Who is with me

Bad idea. We could get one of theirs for 4 terms. The Velveteen Ocelot Jul 2015 #1

Anyhow, the 2-term limit was created by Constitutional amendment, which a mere petition can't change. Or even make a dent in.

You still have to be elected 4 times. I wasn't suggesting that a petition would change the current law. I was suggesting that we play into the GOP's Obama as "king" mantra and drive them crazy. It also is a rallying cry to get Democrats to the polls. And it would be funny ta boot.

If not for the 22nd amendment. He would have easily won reelection in 1988, and even more scary he could have probably won in 1992 and maybe 1996 even as he was ravaged by Alzheimer's.

FDR served in the most extraordinary of circumstances, but even so I think most would agree today that given his health he ought not have run in 1944.

I think in general that Washington's precedent is a worthy one that should be respected.

By the end of his second term, Reagan was deeply involved in Iran/Contra. If anything, we wouldn't have had to endure Bush 1 or Bush 2 for that matter.
