2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumCNN has Obama up by 3 nationally but Mitt up by 8 in swing states???
(note that CNN (Conservative News Network) considers Indiana, Missouri & Arizona among the 'battleground states', I'm sure they were added to make it look better for Mittens):

CNN's poll of the presidential race comes in precisely where it did at the end of MayObama +3. But digging into the underlying numbers of this poll, there is a whole lot of strange details in there. I don't buy Mitt Romney up eight points in the "battleground states," for example, especially if (as CNN claims) Barack Obama is claiming 25 percent of the conservative vote. You can click the tab for more of those underlying data points. There's a lot of "hmm" in there, to be sure.

Maybe they didn't read the second page of the poll?

(16,916 posts)5. We'd like to get your overall opinion of some people in the news. As I read each name, please say
if you have a favorable or unfavorable opinion of these people -- or if you have never heard of
them.
- -
Mitt Romney
Favorable - 48%
Unfavorable - 42%
Never heard of - 5%
No opinion - 6%
5% of all those polled have never heard of Mitt Romney? Hell, the very first question in the poll introduced Romney as the Republican candidate for president. As this was the 5th question, do people not remember that guy from 4 questions back? That guy named MITT?
jesus h christ....

(35,693 posts)Actually I am surprised that the number is only 5%. Of course you have to figure that at least that many are probably too embarrassed to admit they don't know who Mitt Romney is.

How the hell do you not know your own city?

(35,693 posts)For example, in the suburbs of Washington DC you could be in Hyattsville, Riverdale Park, University Park, College Park, or Adelphi within about a mile.

(16,916 posts)but if you don't know what city you live in, then pick up your mail and read the address back to me. BTW, I'm not talking about people who got their city wrong, I'm talking about people who had NO clue. They drew a blank...

(35,015 posts)Just like Romney raising more $$; not because he's popular, but because he has billionaires pushing him like snake oil.
IF the media had any concern for the truth, they'd stop doing these rediculous polls which are designed to keep us all thinking it's a neck and neck horse race with a photo finish. If we didn't believe it was, we wouldn't keep watching and paying attention. It's all about the ratings.

Of course there is still a lot of work to do. This victory isn't in the bag yet by any means.

(308 posts)One conflict in the poll is that CNN has Obama at 50% approval. If that's the case, then he should be on his way to re-election.

(131 posts)Romney is not up by 8, and anyone who thinks he is needs a good dose of laxative. And his favorable rating at 48%...lol..lol..I wonder how many of those people he paid to like him?
Mittens was bound to get a boost when the health care decision came out. Tea Baggers are totally fired up, and moderates swung a little too.
