"Although light years ahead of his Democratic counterparts, Bernie Sanders will ultimately become a better candidate because of the Black Lives Matter takeover of the microphone and stage in Seattle." Gyasi Ross, Blackfeet Nation/Suquamish Nation Territories
Talking about genocide is uncomfortable. Talking about slavery is uncomfortable. Talking about why three out of five Native women are the victims of sexual assault, largely by non-Native males, is uncomfortable. Talking about Jim Crow laws is uncomfortable. Talking about why Native and Black people end up dead at the end of police gun more often than any other ethnicities is uncomfortable.
But it has to be talked about. We have to talk about it.
Yes, even Bernie has to talk about it.

(9,645 posts)prosecuting them, convicting them and giving them real punishment will stop a lot of this
look at the sandra bland case...when that cop tells her to go past the point the camera on his car can view the interaction...that should be illegal right there
he did that for no other reason than to trump up a fake resisting charge

(9,497 posts)Healthcare for Natives is a huge issue and violence against women, too. It is such a sad state of affairs.

(11,945 posts)Tribal Sovereignty: Native American tribes should have sovereign control over their lands.
Healthcare: Healthcare for Native Americans should be improved to better address medical needs and improve outcomes.
Acknowledging Racism: The history of gross mistreatment of Native Americans should be brought to and maintained in the publics attention. Stereotypes and slurs against Native Americans should be discouraged and denounced.
It then goes into more detail on each point. I was glad to see Bernie's position on Tribal Sovereignty.

(10,494 posts)I am glad that Bernie doesn't try to act like he is perfect and has been willing to modify and adapt his focus to include the law enforcement and judicial abuse in this stacked deck!
I think there is a lot of profiling and discrimination of several groups of people. I am in Waco now working on Twin Peaks biker shoot out. Waco is a Southern Baptist, conservative town who do not like anyone not white, Christian, and holier than thou! They did not want bikers meeting in their town and when Twin Peaks refused to cancel their reservation they made sure no bikers ever wanted to come back!
Pull up the footage from Don Carlos and watch the guy in the blue shirt BEFORE the shooting starts. He stands there watching the Twin Peaks parking lot for several minutes, then looks right, looks left, then faces the parking lot directly and with his right hand he taps the side of his head 3 times. One second later the shooting starts? The autopsy reports came out yesterday and most of the dead were shot by cops with rifles. Most has several shots, any of which would have dropped them, yet they still had multiple shots as if more than one sniper shot each at almost the same time. Why didn't the cops, who say they were expecting trouble, not have a presence in the parking lot before trouble started instead of hiding out with silenced assault rifles?
We have got to have a national conversation about police powers and what is going on. We have no more privacy and police are acting with impunity against any individual or group they or the PTB don't like!

(9,497 posts)That the Mexican looking brother was stopped and then jailed for a week without being charged. He just was polite and would sweep out the cells.
Waco/Midland isn't that where the oil is?

Lots of oil around Midland/Odessa, unless you are George W. Bush, he couldn't find it and went bust!

(716 posts)the rising tide of awareness and crescendo of coverage still leaves groups with guns to their heads, and people with guns to their heads have more immediate concern than an election.
"Consent of the governed" and "redress of grievances" point to the right to speak out/up, rudely, if necessary. The phrase "NO Justice - No Peace" follows, legitimately.
Just remember, the owned media will use any conflict as an excuse to talk about BLM, Bernie, Natives, etc while studiously avoiding or misrepresenting their message.

(15,232 posts)Why not on the campaign trail? My only real concern was for Bernies physical safety. He has a sharp tongue and knows how to use it.

(11,945 posts)But I haven't seen any sign of a "sharp tongue" on Bernie. He is invariably kind and considerate in his speech. What I have seen is a truth-telling tongue. The oligarchs don't want the truth out there, and they are the ones who would try to stop him by any means.
