"In February 2011, as the U.S. House of Representatives was considering a bill to eliminate federal funding for Planned Parenthood, Representative Jackie Speier (D-CA) took to the House floor to speak about her personal experience with abortion. Speier was 17 weeks pregnant when she experienced complications resulting in fetal unviability. The speech by Rep. Speier was unique, as most women in the U.S. are uncomfortable publicly discussing their abortion experiences.
