2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumRomney team has their heels dug in - refusing to say he left after 1999.
Romney refusing to release tax returns.
Why? Their base will forgive them for anything - so it must be damaging for independents to hear?
It boggles the mind.

(5,420 posts)1. I think they would provide proof
that he lied, that he was not living where he said he was when he ran for gov., that his accounting would not hold up to real scrutiny, so maybe tax evasion charges.
I think it's because it would out him as a felon without doubt more so than because he was connected to bain.

they play into the idea that Bain and all its works are toxic, something to be repudiated. They can't get out of the box.

Romney has said he left in 1999. Who in the campaign is "refusing to say" and who asked them?

You know the old saying: "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel" (Dr. Samuel Johnson, 1775) ?
That's the deal. He planned that jump to the Olympics so as to deny any knowledge of his actions,
plausibility, his "mission impossible", with the help of his brethren in Salt Lake.
He knew he'd be a sight with that Olympic outfit over his magic underwear. Wrapped in the flag, of course.
