Occupy Kingwood – A Sustainable Form Of The Occupy Movement (2012- 07-14) 30 Consecutive Weeks
We’ve completed 30 consecutive weeks of Occupy Kingwood. What does this mean? We are closing in on our 52 consecutive weeks at the corner of Kingwood Drive and West Lake Houston Parkway. We do this every Saturday between 9 AM and 10:30 AM.
We had a new neighbor, Kevin Higgins, that has joined the fold. Our stalwarts Tara Black, Dr. John Theis, Professor Stephen Davis, Arthur Dietz, Professor and TX House District 127 Candidate Cody Pogue, along with a few other regulars and passers were present. We continue to receive mostly positive responses from neighbors.
Today some of us discussed whether this type of informational protest is effective. One of the things I articulated is it is likely more effective here because of the shock value in a community like ours. Additionally what I explained was that it only takes a bad episode in the life of someone seeing our signs to create that impact and give a personalization to the policies we are illustrating. That one person has family and friends that he/her going forward would impact with that newly found enlightenment. It is what I call single source crowd sourcing and it is the effect we are likely to have in this community.
Bruce and Karen Menke came and provided us with material for screening of Pressure Cooker, the award winning documentary sponsored by the Lone Star College Democrats and the Kingwood Area Democrats. Professor Stephen Davis and Dr. John Theis will present the narrative for the documentary.
The documentary will be held on Tuesday July 24th, 2012 at 7:00 PM at Lone Star College Kingwood in PAC 125 (formerly SFA 125). The screening is open to the entire community. Please come and see it. It promises to be an eye opener.
