taxes + charitable contributions = 35%? Really?

Flipping through the stations, I happened to hear Erin Burnett on CNN say that Robme's taxes plus his charitable contributions equaled President Obama's 35% tax request. That should satisfy President Obama and he should drop this whole Bain and taxes issue and move on to other things people are interested in. Who is this woman talking to? I did not want to cast aspersions on CNN, but hey, they have lost their minds.

Anyone else see it? Could you please explain this to a woman who is obviously slowing down.

it's easy to say you paid 35% when you aren't showing your tax forms. It is quite another to say that with your forms in hand.

Even if his charitable donations and taxes totaled 35%, that is not tantamount to paying a 35% tax rate.
