Romney comes out in favor of "special treatment" for military personnel (re: Ohio early voting)

http://2012.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/08/romney-early-voting-ohio-lawsuit-false-attack.php

Seriously, I support the men and women serving in the armed forces but I don't understand why they deserve special voting privileges that nobody else gets? I mean, shouldn't everybody have an equal opportunity to vote? I know that Republicans are probably doing this to increase their share of votes- since members of the military typically lean Republican- but I think that asking Ohio to have to explain why they're singling out military personnel for "special treatment" is perfectly legitimate and IMHO in no way demeans and/or disrespects them.

You would think that they would be against anything that makes our society less democratic.

They changed the law to take away early voting days for everyone in Ohio but the military. The Obama admin is challenging that to restore early voting for all Ohioans.

Mitt Romney is lying about the lawsuit to try to make it look like Obama wants to restrict military voting. I believe that this lie is cover so people are confused and don't realize that it's really Repubs trying suppress votes in Ohio - an important swing state.

changes the deadline for non-overseas/military early voters from the Monday before election to the Friday before the election.

This isn't special treatment for the overseas/military voters it is a attempt to limit the number of early voters who areen;t within that category.

Please use snopes or read the numerous threads on DU to get the correct information.

I just was commenting on TPM's story about Romney attacking President Obama over it and demanding "special treatment" for military voters (which is especially rich given their historical hostility to the notion of "special rights&quot .

for more than a generation now. So I'm not willing to cut our military too much slack. They did enlist voluntarily.

Totally aside from that (and I'm sure I'll get slammed for my attitude) there is no reason to single out any group and give them special voting privileges. It's not as though the date of the federal election is some kind of a surprise, or not announced until six weeks before.

We need massive peaceful protests at the GOP convention, both inside and outside the arena during the big speeches. We can't let gthe lies go unopposed.
