2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIs Clinton placing President Obama under a public transit vehicle?
She has come out against Keystone before the administration decision and now has come out against President Obama's TPP. And she's hinted that President Obama is not a staunch defender of the United States interests in military affairs.
The potential implications of this are interesting to speculate upon. How much of this has to do with trying to position herself to at least equal parity with Bernie and O'Malley in the primary pandering to "the base"?
Is she trying to win over those unions who have been holding candidates' feet to the fire on TPP?
Is she gingerly tossing President Obama under the motorized mass transit coach to head Biden off at the pass -- to set the stage for a Clinton vs. Biden/Obama steel-cage death match?
Are old resentments between them from 2008 coming to the fore after those gauzy intervening years of Kumbayyah?
All of the above?
Okay. For the sake of fairness, perhaps she is just actually acting on solidly-held core beliefs.
Whatever, some kind of tectonic plates seem to be rolling below the surface of all this maneuvering.
And from the narrow DU perspective, it'll also be interesting to see whether all this will affect the "you Bernie supporters are just bashing Obama." Screenshots! I demand a screenshot!

U.S., Other Nations Reach Agreement On Trans-Pacific Partnership
OCTOBER 05, 2015 8:25 AM ET
"We, the trade ministers ... are pleased to announce that we have successfully concluded the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiation," U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman announced Monday morning, to a loud round of applause.
(snip)
The 30-chapter announcement means that a years-long process to ease trading between the U.S. and 11 Pacific Rim nations is closer to being finalized, with negotiators clearing hurdles on how to handle everything from dairy products and drug patents to car factories.
(snip)
Summarizing some of the resistance to the deal, NPR's Danielle Kurtzleben reported earlier this year that leaked portions of the TPP "have intellectual property advocates, like the Electronic Frontier Foundation, worried it goes too far in areas like extending copyright laws and fair use rules. Doctors Without Borders has also argued the deal could make for more expensive generic drugs, restricting access to medicine for some consumers. However, some wish the pact went further environmental groups like the Sierra Club, for example, believe the provisions won't do enough to address overfishing."

(12,655 posts)she sees which way the wind is blowing. She trying to adopt Bernie and O'Malley's positions and claim them as her own. Sorry but I don't buy it for a minute. I don't think she would hesitate for two seconds to sell us all out when she got into office and answer once again to corporate masters and the MIC.
I wish I could believe her, but everything about her career and her husband's suggest that they are calculating politicians who do what they have to do to get elected. I don't buy it for a minute

(20,176 posts)I find her disingenuous and fully expect her to find she supports Keystone, TPP and military adventurism abroad as soon as she's elected...which is why it's so important she's not elected.
I don't believe she has any solidly-held beliefs over than a deep-seated conviction that she deserves to be President. Generally though, I believe that she believes in the unholy union of business interests as the prime interests of the government...Mussolini-style fascism.
