Hillary opposes the TPP...that's great!

That means the efforts of our progressive candidates hasn't been in vain. Influencing the national debate in ways which forces politicians to adopt progressive positions and causes is what these campaigns should be about, outside of the horse race. Hillary's progressive positioning on issues shows the value and effect of ours and our candidate's advocacy.

I'm all for highlighting the actual history and commitment of these politicians to issues like opposing the TPP, but I'm less impressed by efforts to twist that support offered for progressive positions into no credit at all for making the right decisions. Have some here lost sight of the dynamic of running progressive campaigns in opposition to Clinton's decidedly less progressive record?

Give credit where credit is due, and allow that we will change minds with our activism. Take this accomplishment and move forward. Hold these 'evolving' candidates to their campaign conversions. We just might find ourselves making a progressive difference in this election and beyond.

They first turned on their own party's president when he joined with Republican congressional leaders to push a measure called "trade promotion authority" in June. That legislation -- key to getting other countries to sign off on a final agreement -- allowed Obama to seal the deal and send it to lawmakers for an up-or-down vote with no amendments.

Clinton dismissed that bill as procedural, and said she'd weigh in on the deal once it became final.

Fast-track, or trade promotion authority, will allow the White House to send trade deals to Congress for up-or-down votes. The Senate will not be able to filibuster them, and lawmakers will not have the power to amend them.

The expedited process, which lasts until 2018 and can be extended until 2021, greatly increases Obama’s chances of concluding negotiations on the TPP, which is a top goal of the president’s.
