Related: About this forumQuarter Million Have Attended Bernie Sanders events through Oct 10
Last edited Sun Oct 11, 2015, 04:29 PM - Edit history (1)
Bernie Sanders has now exceeded (as of Oct 10) 250,000 participants in his events from the date of his announcement May 26. He's attended at least 81 public events, a little more than half of which were in Iowa and New Hampshire. Most of those were fairly small and hard to get accurate counts for. However, the top 25 events alone account for 224,900 per published counts (and including overflow) and total of the events I can find decent numbers for = 237,700. Assuming 300 average at the smaller events that I wasn't able to get numbers for - events which range from meetings in homes to VFW halls to HS auditorium-size venues) (not a bad average estimate, I think, and even if it's a hundred or more off it doesn't affect the numbers by by a few thousand), this totals out to just over 250,000.
This is far, far more than any other candidate in either party has drawn so far.
Top 25 Sanders events (unfortunately the neat table I made in the edit mode, doesn't work when displayed, sorry for the slop):

Hillary wasn't even mentioned in the OP.
Instead of being excited for how engaged people are being in politics, your first reaction is to be partisan?
Interesting.

people getting nervous around here lol.

(62,325 posts)people attacking Obama said many of the same things they are now saying about Bernie. I take that as a great sign.
We KNEW Obama was going to win and of course, some of those who have flip flopped since then without explaing why, are doing the same thing or trying to, to Sanders.
And BErnie just keeps gathering more supporters, every single day.
I love the way he is being so careful too about how he spends the PEOPLE'S money. Shows what a great money manager he will be in the WH.

* for those of you who don't get the reference...this is a photo of the original cast of LOST besides their plane. Sort of the start of 6 seasons (uncanny isn't it?!) of weird twists and turns. Good people becoming bad, bad people becoming...obsessed. And really hard to follow and in the end, disappointing to those rooting for the cast.

However we always make it to the ballot box to vote a straight democratic ticket and we are looking forward to giving our votes to Hillary soon.

(146,282 posts)how many people will be voting next November. He is getting a good turnout at his events. No question about that. But a quarter of a million people is not a large percentage of actual voters in general elections in presidential election years.
In all 50 states, it's not even that large a percentage of primary voters, who are those who get counted when it comes to the nomination.
Bernie's popular with many Democrats. That's obvious. Will that translate to a nomination for him? That's not so obvious. We'll find out, though. That's certain.

(62,325 posts)way that campaign went. Your comment however, made me laugh, as it reminded me as an Obama supporter at that time, being told the exact same thing at this stage of the campaign. 'Crowds like that are nothing, Rock concerts attract more people'. And the crowds kepts on growing and we worked harder to get more people to know about Obama.
And he won.
So, what was your point again? I love the feeling of deju vu we get when Hillary supporters, then and now, try so hard to dismiss the growing support THEN for Obama, now for Bernie. And btw, Bernie's crowds exceed Obama's at this point in the campaign. So do his donations.
So iow, as a supporter of both campaigns, we are ahead this time of where we were in 2008.
So who did you support in 2008 as clearly you weren't working on Obama's campaign or you would known these facts.
MineralMan
(146,282 posts)here in Minnesota about this time in 2007. If you had read all of my posts, you'd know that. I joined DU at election time. And I've been reading attacks on President Obama here ever since. Isn't that a strange coincidence?
As I've said, I'm supporting Hillary Clinton for the primaries. I like Bernie a lot, but I truly believe he would lose the general election, so I'm working to elect a Democratic President. That's what I always do.
You will do as you see fit, and so will I. In the end, we'll all be voting for the Democratic nominee next November. All of us who are Democrats, anyhow.

(57,936 posts)He's for Bernie.
Bernie's appeal is amazing.
Bernie is just real, and people respond to him and want to vote for him because they like his views on the issues.
MineralMan
(146,282 posts)Good luck to him and his supporters. If he's the nominee, he can count on my support during the GE campaign. You won't see me attacking him here. But, I'm supporting Clinton in the primaries. Good luck to us all.

(80 posts)And I supported him, and continue to, wholeheartedly.
Sanders is a whole higher measure of progressive, however.
His win will be significantly more important then when Obama won.

(18,791 posts)Bernie is going to eat Ms. Inevitable's lunch.
She's been hiding out with Billionaires and Banksters, running around in that private loaner jet, sucking up those $2700 per plate dinners...she will finally have to stand in front of cameras for the true public to see. It will take only minutes for millions to remember why they do not like her NOR trust her.
Fellow co-workers yesterday, again said they don't trust her...this has been consistent for weeks and is spread over working with different people every time.
Bernie is honest, focused, authentic and has been consistent for about forever.
Go Bernie Go!
------------
From a NationOfChange.org article:
"On the other hand, she has not yet chosen to challenge many of the ways this economy is rigged against working people. She opposes breaking up the big banks, a new Glass-Steagall Act that would separate Wall Streets casino from federally guaranteed deposits, and a true financial transactions tax. She has not embraced expanded Social Security benefits or Medicare for All, the necessary next battle in health care reform. She doesnt call for taxing investment income at same rates as the income from work, or for taxing multinationals at same rates as domestic small businesses by repealing the deferral of taxes on income earned abroad which gives multinationals incentives to shift jobs or report profits abroad (with an estimated $2 trillion now nominally stashed abroad to evade taxes). Shes not advocated new higher tax rates on millionaires and billionaires, and thus is vague about the scale of her public investment agenda."

And an almost endless list of why we do NOT need her:

(6,543 posts)I specified that Sanders has attended approx 81 events, and that those events were attended by 250,000 people. "Seeing" someone on TV or a computer monitor is not "in attendance".
Motown_Johnny
(22,308 posts)But I did attend that event where I saw him on a TV. He did not attend it, but merely was presented on that screen.
I still think that those ~100,000 should be acknowledged in some way. The 250,000 number does not do justice to the true number of people who went out and braved traffic and crowds to attend an event for Bernie.

(3,431 posts)yesterdays rally in Boulder, we had to get tickets.
They were free of course. The reason for those?
They contained a part where you could leave
some info about you with the wish for you
to volunteer. Most of the people were more
than happy to join. The rallies are meant to
get volunteers, and in that they are successful.
If even 30% of the attendees are willing to
work for Bernie then he just got 3,000 new
helpers in a purple state.

(11,945 posts)It's an eye-opener to see all these venues and counts listed -- and I can only imagine your frustration when the layout collapsed! It's too bad the DU software can't accommodate tables.
Bernie is an amazing phenomenon and these numbers show how much the American people want and need to hear what he has to say.
And all that with minimal MSM attention and NO corporate money. It says something about this primary -- and the GE, too.
Thank you so much for putting this important information in one place!
