2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIs there anybody who's not nervous?
What could go wrong? And for who? Honestly, you'd think I was going to debate....
I wish it was after the debates so I would know how it turned out.

(24,853 posts)Good luck to your Mets tonight. My boy Kershaw doesn't do well in the playoffs with only three days rest. I'm not confident in a Dodger victory.
Oh well, there's always (the proverbial) Next Year.
No matter who wins, the game is sure to be leaps and bounds more interesting than the debate.
Again: Good luck to you and the Mets.

The way I look at it, though, is no matter what happens none of the participants will come across as stupid, weird, mean, or mad as a box of frogs, which puts all of our candidates way ahead of the GOP's ship of fools.

(5,279 posts)I'm no debating.
I have hopes, but I use the debates to refine my choices.

(15,558 posts)Barring a catastrophe, there is little that could happen that would sway anyone already in either the Sanders or Clinton camps. I mainly see the debate as useful to voters unfamiliar with the candidates.

(38,613 posts)If they can keep it on the relevant issues, it should be enjoyable. But, as James Earl Jones warns: "This is CNN".

(10,345 posts)This is my first rodeo so to speak. I'm rooting for Bernie, and knowing how much of an outsider he is and how unconventional his methods can be, I'm pretty on edge lol.
I want so badly for him to win, I know he's fierce in debates. But I know that critics are unfair and cruel, Howard Dean comes to mind.
But the thing is, Bernie has always been aware of the tricks of the media. He knows all the angles. And because of this, I believe he's quite mentally prepared.
Either way, nervous, exciting, anxiety, all of those! This is fun though don't you agree!?

(41,103 posts)arriving today at the Vegas Center. It's posted in the *BSG and would reassure the most nervous person. Bernie looks and answers great even the reporter's quick 's' question. With radiant Jane beside him.

(10,044 posts)to find out if I'm going to die in 2 weeks and need surgery that I can't afford. Ya, this is fun.
Most fun is when it's over and I can breathe a sigh of relief (until the morning shows come on, especially New Day = 6-9 am. It means worrying what they'll say, but then, it's finally over.

(41,103 posts)this afternoon that would reassure even the most apprehensive person. It's posted in the BSG. A CNN reporter outside the building asks Bernie about how's all, even the 'S' word and the candidate looks terrific, answers well and is accompanied by wife Jane. Check it out.

(10,044 posts)put crazy glue on the podium and the floor near it and Bernie can't walk or get his hands off of it...
Na, that wouldn't happen, oh, but what if it did...!!
Na, well maybe....

(59,498 posts)and couldn't really imagine why. I was never nervous for any primary debates before. There were many years where I felt much stronger about who I wanted to win. (Probably never more than 2004 where before the first debate I really really wanted either Kerry or Dean and feared they might kind of cancel each other other. As the debates continued I wanted Kerry to win far more than I ever wanted anyone else. Yet I was never nervous. )
My only guess is that it is because there is far too much animus here and elsewhere this year. 2008 seems nice in comparison! I agree with you -- I wish it were over and we knew the spins that would be everywhere tomorrow morning. In reality, I think there is really less at stake than in most races. It is - as it always has been Hillary's to lose. More even than 2008. I suspect that had she not seemed so completely unbeatable two years ago, there might now have been a strong young candidate running. Who, I have no idea. I honestly doubt that Clinton, who is a very very competent debater is likely to have any major gaffe that suddenly makes her less likely. I also doubt that enough people actually watch the debates to have Sanders or O'Malley really really connect and change minds.
So, I have no idea why I am also unsettled.
