What is Hillary's optimum strategy in the general?

Assuming for the purposes of this thread that Hillary has won the primary then what?

A cynical strategist (is there any other kind?) would advise her to go to the right until she is just to the left of the leftmost Republican, Attila the Hun.

That would be the safe bet, who else are you gonna vote for suckas?

On the other hand Hillary could throw caution and prudence to the wind and tack hard left in the general, there is something to be said for that.

that is where the vast majority of Americans that would vote for her are at. She will not have to tack to the right.

The only folks that she will have trouble attracting, especially given the nuttiness of the gop, will be the right fringe and the fringe of the left ... neither of which would vote for her, regardless of her policy stances.

She promoted progressive ideas to Bill who was more conservative. I can't say I am surprised by the Hillary hate I see around, as she has been smeared for decades by people with a lot of money. But you have to wonder why they try so hard to keep her down.

Sell herself as the "Not as Bad moderate" to the left and the "Not as bad moderate" to the right.

Spend lots of money and swear that she's not really a corporatist to the left while taking even more money from the corporations.

Tell the left she's really not a hawk while threatening whatever bogeyman she can to show she's "tough" to the right.

Leave out the "neo" when she tells the left she's a liberal.

HRC won't have to tack to the right ... she is already in the political space where a majority of the American electorate resides.

She has been using a general campaign theme. Going after republicans and their policies, while promoting her own. It will just become much larger. No matter what anyone thinks, her network is extremely impressive. I think it's just an issue of scale.

I said here about two months ago I wasn't big on what appears to be a small scale general election theme in the primary. Sanders is a formidable opponent in the primaries and his supporters are willing to expend a lot of energy. Unfortunately for him, I believe that energy is easier to tap into in an effective manner in a general election. Still a long way to go in the primary.

The Democratic machinery wouldn't actively impede him too much if he won the primary I hope but up until then it's going to be wooden shoes in every single gear.

but on a larger scale: Bigger focus groups, different positions
to different audiences, and attacking repugs instead of
offering any serious answers to issues.

However, I expect her to change her positions on guns
very much to the right.
