2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBernie and the Millennials will change this country forever. Bernie doesn't need to win the...
nomination in order to lead the revolution. The candidacy and how long he can stay in, if not win, is critically important in order to get the widest attention and support by the Millennials. Millennials are already the most socialist friendly of all the generations.
This is critically important because its up to the Millennials to steer this country away from the greed and selfishness and bigotry that previous generations embraced (they've already succeeded in terms of gay people, leading the acceptance wave of gay people). Millennials will take over this country within the next 10 to 20 years, and what Bernie is doing now is at the very least planting idea seeds that will grow over time and eventually change this country for the better. Bernie's leadership with the Millennials have the power over the next decade or two to take down the establishment.
The electorate by generation:

Hillary may be running just for the presidency but Bernie is leading a revolution. You want to change the world? Capture the minds of young people, because older people are much more fixed in terms of beliefs and much harder to "convert", and young people will eventually become older and be in power. There's a reason why most advertisers only target people age 49 and younger, because people age 50 and older are generally fixed in terms of brand loyalty.

(3,411 posts)support his politics. I'm still wary of how the current electorate will treat him knowing that he's a democratic socialist. A lot of older Americans have been brainwashed into rejecting socialism from the Cold War days and I don't have a lot of faith that they can change. In addition, I remember the Dean Scream moment in 2004 and know full well that the media can conspire to take him down at any moment.

(1,656 posts)We need a President, exactly like Senator Sanders, to be the leader of the free world.
The president is the one with the bully pulpit and the ability to talk directly with the people. The President
is the one who can veto crappy anti-American legislation that the 1% corporatists Congress throws at us.
Just like FDR...we need Senator Sanders as President of the United States.

(7,865 posts)Maybe you could be more dismissive and condescending. I'm sure we don't need to try to push for progressive economics and politics in the future either. In fact, I think you are right.
Maybe we should write off an entire generation because they don't support your corporate candidate right now at this very moment. Maybe we should borrow a page from good ole Rahm Emmanuel and accuse millenials of being mentally handicapped.
It is almost as though you are here just to sow division and stir crap up.

(136 posts)please consider using your cell phone to capture a pic of your summary voting screen at the end of the voting process. I know this is illegal in some areas (a misdemeanor where I'm at) but I'd rather be arrested for a misdemeanor than let those bastards flip my vote. I did this in 2012 and no-one at the polling center even noticed. If enough of us do this maybe it'll make a difference.
