UglyGreed
(7,661 posts)pandering and tugging at heart string does not show how one would be effective POTUS. Pandering has allowed the Bigwigs who fund Hillary to run this country into the ground. Poverty up, high paying jobs down, homelessness up, CEO pay up, MIC up ......................

(19,460 posts)If Bernie had talked about his mom this way, he would have been hailed as a hero. Hillary does it and she is just tugging at heart strings and pandering. Got it.

(7,661 posts)You have no ideal what kind of person I am and just because I call out typical pandering which really does not have anything to do with being POTUS I am a sexist. I was behind Elizabeth Warren many years ago BEFORE anyone even knew her name yet I'm a sexist. Give me a break. Perhaps you should change your name centerrightofcool since that is where Hillary stands.............

(99,710 posts)As a dispassionate observer it is incumbent upon me to point out changing someone's user name:

karynnj
(59,501 posts)"just can't stand to hear it?"
I think the op's video is ridiculous and there is no sensible way to understand why he is so angry. It is true that this is not an "issues" ad, but at that this stage, many candidate's put out ads to define themselves. To tell people a bit of their own back story. (One of Kerry's very best ads was one of these put out in the primaries - where a black sailor on his swiftboat spoke of him as a caring supervisor in a very difficult mission.)
Here, Clinton, who has been very very well known since 1992, is trying to remind people of her upbringing and family BEFORE she went to college, law school, and married Bill Clinton. I would say a more effective ad might have spoken of her own upbringing - rather than the horrors of her mom's childhood. From all accounts in the past and in her book when she left the WH, she had a very normal middle class upbringing in a Chicago suburb. I suspect that maybe something like that could be ad 2 - to follow this.
If so, maybe she wants to be speaking to both those fortunate enough to have what she had AND to offer a role model (her mom) who rose above the unhappiness of her own childhood to create a supportive environment for the woman who could be President.

(19,089 posts)Hell ... There are hardly any comments AT ALL ...
This political season in DU has been THE WORST ...
I know I've read your posts over the years and have found them to be thoughtful and reasonable ..
But now? ... Based in this comment alone, I feel that I can't trust anybody who would make such a detestable accusation based on the flimsiest evidence ... So flimsy, my only conclusion is that you are willing to LIE and falsely accuse someone, all to further your political support for one candidate ...
THAT is despicable ... And after many years of enjoying your otherwise decent conversation, I have to place you on ignore ... Why would I want such a liar in my world? ....Fuck that ... Sorry, but you're gone.

(45,319 posts)who makes repeated OP's aimed at LGBT persons, preaching at us about your dislike of Bernie. You are the counterpart to Stockholm Man on the Bernie side, who does that same thing preaching at us about his dislike of Hillary.
Generalizations are not good. Let me tell you why. In the real world I know and have worked for one of Hillary's biggest supporters. I do not have a good opinion of the man at all. My opinion is based on experience and first hand dealings. If I thought for a moment that he defined Hillary I'd seek to have her ejected from the Party entirely. Instead she's just not my first choice. When I say 'one of her biggest' I mean a known wealthy donor whom people have strong opinions about.
So I am capable of actually knowing and not liking people who Hillary associates with publicly and still judging Hillary for herself and not for her associate. An associate with whom she poses and whose home she attends. You however are judging all Sanders supporters from random strangers on the internet who are not associates in life and who have nothing to do with Sanders.
starroute
(12,977 posts)Yeah, the rant in the video was crude and tasteless. But its biggest mistake is that the guy thinks Hillary's ad was content free, an attempt to exploit her mother's sufferings as an eight year old as a reason to vote for her. But it's got a more substantive message than that -- and the message is one I despise.
Hillary says over and over, "I want to be your champion."
Here she is saying it last April in announcing her presidential run:
http://www.sacbee.com/news/politics-government/article18338306.html
Here she is saying it to fast food workers last June:
http://www.politico.com/story/2015/06/clinton-to-fast-food-workers-i-want-to-be-your-champion-118708
It's even on a campaign button. And though she doesn't use the complete phrase in this ad, the word "champion" is there, and it's the underlying message.
But here's the thing. I don't want a champion. I don't want somebody who will go out and fight for me as if I were a helpless eight year old who needs a sympathetic teacher to lie about having brought too much food. I don't want someone whose idea of being a champion for the poor is to press for a $12 minimum wage that is still inadequate to support a family. I don't want somebody whose idea of being a champion is to tell the bankers, "Cut it out."
I want someone who understands that I know far better than she does what I need and how to fight for it -- if only the systemic barriers that are crushing all of us were out of the way.
I might even add that the very idea of a champion is sexist. The champion is the warrior who rescues a princess who's far too delicate and intimidated to rescue herself. And having a woman put herself in the champion role and assume that every other woman needs rescuing is no less sexist than having a man do it.

(97 posts)good post. There is a real cultural divide between HC and BS supporters and it isn't gender or race based. . . we have entirely different criteria for the decision.

(16,372 posts)I happen to believe that our criteria are more rigorously defined in terms of the real challenges of our times. These problems must be addressed head on, NOW if our country and our world are to survive the hyper-capitalism that is currently devouring the world's seed stock like swarms of biblical locusts.
