Say It Ain’t So, Hillary Clinton—You’re Open to the Idea of Raising the Retirement Age?

Say It Ain’t So, Hillary Clinton—You’re Open to the Idea of Raising the Retirement Age?

At a forum in New Hampshire on Wednesday, Hillary Clinton stood by her support for the death penalty, which made headlines. But her remarks about Social Security that day didn't get as much attention.

She offered a lot of the same rhetoric many Democrats are now saying, that we need to look at how the poorest Social Security recipients are faring and think about how to shore up payments there. But she also left the door open to raising the retirement age if there were a way to exclude people who are not working labor-intensive jobs, while at the same time not fully endorsing simply raising the tax cap, which would ensure the system is fully funded going forward.

TRIANGULATION....AGAIN. How do you justify this from a "Democrat"?

I simply do not trust her to keep Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, ACA etc, out of the grubby hands of her Third Way DLC Wall Street Buddies.

It's elitist to be talking about raising the age for social security at this point.

.....Thirdly, we do have to consider ways to make sure that the funding of Social Security does maintain the system. I think we have a number of options; this would be something that I would look at, I would not favor raising the retirement age. And I don’t favor it because it might be fine for somebody like me, but the vast majority of working people who have worked hard and have had a difficult, maybe last couple of decades trying to continue to work, it would be very challenging for them. If there were a way to do it that would not penalize or punish laborers and factory workers and long-distance truck drivers and people who really are ready for retirement at a much earlier age, I would consider it. But I have yet to find any recommendation that I would think would be suitable.

That really plays to the hoi polloi on the Far Left Internet, but not so much in the real world as we are finding out. But I advise you to keep playing up the ideology as much as possible.

instead of people working for those companies. She is a two time Senator from New York. I live in a small suburb of New York City and I can look out my window and see four houses of people who work at Bank of New York and Merrill. None of us are wealthy and we all work for a living just like union members do. I am a life long Democrat and so are most of my neighbors. We have just as much right to representation as you do.
And, if you look down Hillary's list past your cut off, I am guessing you will find just as many union member's contributions as Bernie has.
My Democratic group is made up of teachers, police officers, stock brokers and doctors and every one of them enthusiastically supports Hillary and donates generously.

It was like she's so used to equivocating, triangulating, and obfuscating that she didn't even realize that when she said she would consider raising the retirement age that it would stick out like a sore thumb.

Now she, and her swarming supporters, can't spin it away no matter how desperately they try. The more they attempt to, the more obvious it is that she let the cat out of the bag. Not that I trusted her anyway. She simply cannot be trusted with anyone's retirement...unless they have a golden nest egg.
