(146,192 posts)It was a false lead all along. Of course such a well-recognized candidate's name will appear on the NH ballot. New Hampshire's economy needs active primary campaigns. Aside from Linux consultants and too-good-to-work-for-a-living libertarians, New Hampshire loves primary elections in presidential election years. The media alone contributes largely to its economy.
All those journalists have to write something, you know.

(146,192 posts)Lousy poll numbers (skewed, of course) and many other things. The NH ballot thing was a useless ginned-up controversy that never really existed.

(16,286 posts)He cant do much about them even as president until he gets a house and senate to work with, but as Democrats we can admit we miss the days when our politicians were strikingly different from the other guys on ALL issues, not just social ones.
And even if Bernie doesnt make it as president, he and us can pressure the hell out of Hillary if she wants to get reelected as to those assholes on wall street.

(51,122 posts)A lot of the 'Not Hillary' Party will lose interest now that he's declared himself a Democrat.

(4,458 posts)if one simply looked at his voting record
A single letter next to ones name means little in modern politics these days. It Used to mean a lot, but corporatism has blurred the lines so much that these days the party's are oft times indistinguishable. The one true way to understand who any candidate and politician works for is to review their voting records. Period.
What they say has little to do with how they vote - in Far too many circumstances.

(12,504 posts)so the fact the Dems have more impressive bills and policies that he agrees with should not be a surprise to anyone. That in an of itself does not make someone a Democrat.
fredamae
(4,458 posts)I don't care about party identification .... I care about Votes. Bernie Sanders Votes With and Supports Dems in policy.
Curious-What, exactly Does make a person a Democrat, in your opinion?
Thank you both for your comments, though.
Bleacher Creature
(11,235 posts)Being a Democrat is about being part of a larger organization. It's about campaigning for fellow Democrats, raising money for them, getting their people to the polls, and on and on and on. It's about working together and coordinating, either to bring about a specific result or to stop the lunatics on the other side.
Bernie is awesome on the issues, but he's spent his entire career refusing to join, and sometimes outwardly mocking, the party. The only thing that's changed now, is that being a Democrat benefits him.
fredamae
(4,458 posts)record of standing for and defending democratic principals, alongside "registered" Dems has helped "us" and is what matters to me. It's about heart, intent, passion and compassion for "the people".
That to Me is representative of the Dem party...far and above many who serve Now under the Dem label.
We'll agree to disagree.
Thank you, tho.

(11,366 posts)In my state, I don't have to register with a party to vote in the primaries. I just pick "Democrat" when I go vote in the primaries.

Bluenorthwest
(45,319 posts)Democrat for weeks and weeks, for partisans from distant States decide to take issue with the will of another State's Democratic Party for the sake of what amounts to a desire to suppress voter options is really a very negative thing.
bravenak
(34,648 posts)Bluenorthwest
(45,319 posts)Those posters have spent weeks spouting their disagreement with the Democratic Party of New Hampshire which has been asserting that Bernie is a Democrat. They took issue with the Party, State and National, calling Bernie a Democratic candidate. 'When did a non Democrat win the nomination' well never because getting the nomination alone would make you a Democrat, there is not a three week training workshop or a ritual blood sacrifices.
So I know they have to have something to grind on but perhaps now they can stop being in open war on the will of the NH Democratic Party. I found all of that to be unsavory and very selfish for those not in NH.
frazzled
(18,402 posts)He has repeatedly declined to be a nominee on the Democratic ticket for either Representative or Senator in Vermont. So now he is a Democrat (because you HAVE to be a Democrat to be included on the NH ballot for the Democratic primary). Or did he say "for now"?
I truly wonder if he will retain the Democratic label if he does not win the nomination. Next time he runs for reelection in Vermont, will he run as a Democrat? Actually, can we change him from I to D in the Senate right now?? Or was this just ... as is so often charged here of other candidates ... just "pandering"?
I don't really care, but the statement that Sanders was not a Democrat were absolutely true until today.
John Poet
(2,510 posts)is STILL true.
That is, if one thinks the Democrats are,
or are supposed to be,
a progressive-liberal party...
... and not just a
"we're just so slightly to the left of those horrible Republicans" party.
frazzled
(18,402 posts)whenever there's a post just stating a fact--a plain old, garden-variety, nondisputable fact--it is so often responded to with an opinion.
We're just talking facts here. Opinions are fine to express, but they're not a response to a fact.
