2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSo, Yeah, I Want Our Next President to Be a Woman. Wanna Make Something of It?
Twice as many women were killed by their intimate partners in this country between 2002 and 2012 as the number of US troops that died in Iraq and Afghanistan AND folks who were killed on 9-11. One in three women around the globe has been a victim of domestic violence. When women are beaten by their partners, folks still ask "What did she do to deserve it?"
In 1969, Yoko Ono said "Woman is the n----- of the world." Little has changed since then, especially in the third world. Women hold up half the sky--and only own a small fraction of the world's wealth. 1%, to be exact, even though they make up 40% of the world's work force. This is no accident. Women are systematically exploited, disenfranchised, denied education, mocked, beaten, raped and murdered if they try to rise up from their serfdom.
If there was a country where any single group of men contributed so much to the workforce but received so little in exchange, we would denounce that country. The way we denounced South Africa. Where is our outrage for women? Why is the Never-ending War Against Women not the first, second and third most important issues of this election?

If you are not a troll and you want to be taken seriously than you need to moderate your approach and not bait people.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS
Calling another poster a troll is disruptive and rude. The poster is clear that they are to the left of Hillary, but the thread topic is Hillary, so their comments are valid here.

As a woman, it takes a whole lot more than gender to get my support.
Too bad Elizabeth Warren is not running; she would have had my full support, because of the issues I am concerned with.

(5,621 posts)I keep seeing that word bandied about all the time on these boards, but it always seems to go one way. It was crazier in 2008 than it is now, because both groups declared that they deserved to win because of inequality. The only way to get equality is to strip away physical characteristics of a person and just read what that person wants to do or has done. Barriers are being broken all the time, but it is difficult to change a preconceived notion.
Even traditional roles are being turned upside down. More and more men are becoming the family caretaker, while the spouse becomes the major breadwinner. There are strong women and weak men. Who hasn't heard of the strong black woman, but there are also black women who aren't that strong. They say that men are the only ones who can make the tough decisions, not true, women make tough decisions every day. We all know the stereotypes, but things are changing, thank goodness.
To really be equal, you must treat each individual the same, within reason of course. When I look at our candidates, I really don't care about their color, sex or religion. I care about what they have done on issues and what they plan to do on issues.
And, if Bernie is sexist about kicking Hillary's butt, then when she says it about Bernie or O'Malley then she is sexist too.

(45,319 posts)And for Hillary this sort of argument crashes headlong into her opposition to marriage equality because a big part of that position is 'those women can not do as they wish, love as they wish, they will be told how to be and if they want marriage they can find a man'.
I get that straight Hillary supporters think 'gay marriage' and they see two 40 year old men with big Freddie Mercury mustaches but that's just prejudice.
Also, she was calling the TPP the gold standard and it legitimizes nations that oppress, punish and even execute LGBT people and women who do not conform. How can that be acceptable to a candidate who would allow the arguments you are making?
The women of Brunei do not count? LGBT women, they are not women? Their equality has not always been Hillary's position, now has it? No, it has not.

(34,060 posts)While I don't think that for me that is a reason to vote for someone I surely cannot say it is not an important vote for others and perfectly OK given the position we as women are always in.
While I would love to join you for me HRC is not the solution so I can't join you, at least in the primary.
As a woman I understand completely why you would make this decision and I think it is a perfectly good reason. Your reasoning is correct and well said.
You will have no argument from me and my vote if she is our nominee mainly for reasons directly associated with her being female.
