2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumDUers, That was a fantastic debate and Rachel Madow was a great Moderator
Having seen her debate with all three Candidates, am tongue-tied as to whom I would support, not that I can vote.
Mrs. Clinton did great but for some reason am leaning towards Mr. Sanders. Whom do you think may win over the South?

(6,719 posts)I especially liked the fact that each person got to talk! You know -- several sentences at a time! No 30 second limits. It was the best experience for me -- I could focus on each one and listen.

The thing is, the Democracts always have great people running and only one wins. Those three delegates were remarkable with the questions and answers. No comparison to the bus load of republicans!

(755 posts)She will win the swing states of FL, NC, GA, NC. She could win AL, MS, TN, OK, MO, KS in the GE. The Clintons need to get back into the Southern roots of the party.
akbacchus_BC
(5,704 posts)sure she will win in the Southern States. Kinda apprehensive since so many Republicans won in the primaries in those southern states.
No matter what, I want a Democrat to win the elections.

(9,688 posts)I think any one of them could easily take the South, East, West and North.
Any Dem can take on any Republican and win.

I'd put money on that.

(5,704 posts)For some reason, Mr. Sanders is not able to gain any traction with black voters. I wonder why, perhaps he is not telling his story correctly. He marched with Mr. King and was for civil rights. Maybe, he needs to tell that story so that black Americans can understand that he was for civil rights from the get go, not only in Chicago!

(41,600 posts)Seriously though, I do believe Bernie's got this in the bag. After the TPP bill was released today, Hillary's probably toast. She supports the TPP and it is a HORRENDOUS Trade Deal. Unions aren't going to appreciate it.
Bernie is going to win the Primary.

(5,704 posts)honest politician in Washington. Not saying President Obama is not honest, but in my estimation, Mr. Sanders is a breath of fresh air to people who really want change to the status quo and the rich benefitting and the poor getting poorer. We really need a President in the US who can match our new PM Trudeau to uplift the working class, stop warmongering and make our nations more prosperous.

(41,600 posts)It always amazes me when people outside this country better understand what's happening here than a large segment of the population that actually lives it. It's a sad commentary on the state of this nation!
Bernie is a breath of fresh air. I've never witnessed a more honest and outspoken politician - ever in my lifetime and I've been voting for a very long time.
Bernie has had mega rallies with:
11,000 people in Phoenix
15,000 in Seattle
28,000 in Portland, OR
27,500 in LA
33,000 in Boston with 4,000 in an overflow room
13,000 in Tuscon, AZ
So people here are pretty excited about Bernie! He's going to win this.
Congrats on electing Trudeau! Canada is lucky! And smart!

(5,704 posts)My dad always cautioned me not to join any political party, did I hear him. No, I was my own person and have been involved in politics for decades and I know a leader who is honest. I really liked Mr. Obama and was glad he got elected but this time, I am rooting for Mr. Sanders. He is so real and not only that, he cares about people and especially for the working class, that I admire. Most politicians are rooting for the middle class, which is declining and that is sad, but Mr. Sanders is real.
The only thing is that the media is saying that he is not connecting with black people and that is so not true, he was involved in the Civil Rights movement and I feel he is not giving his involvement too much importance. Black people need to know that he advocated for them since he was young and then he will be able to gain some traction with black voters.
We are hoping that with electing Mr. Justin Trudeau and him telling President Obama that XL pipeline is not going to happen and Canada is pulling our troops out of the Middle East, it will help Mr. Sanders.
Canada was never into combat, we were always peacekeeping, Harper changed that. I truly hope that Mr. Sanders gets elected albeit it is a long election process for you all in the US.

(39,961 posts)and will fight tooth and nail to make it a reality, along with flipping our state reps (good God, Palazzo doesn't represent my interests anymore than a broken clock).
We have to mobilize in our districts.
That does not mean we stop fighting to get our candidate of choice elected - it means we have to fight a shade harder in our own neighborhoods. I live in a Red State is not an excuse for not fighting for every Democratic vote you can get.

(41,600 posts)There's a reason for that. He knows people are sick to death of politics as usual. Once people in your state hear and meet Bernie, they will love him. People are starved for some TRUTH! Bernie brings truth and more to this election. People in the South are going to love him just as much as everyone else who has met him and heard his speeches.
His mega rallies weren't just some fluke. People love him because he's honest and real! When's the last time we could ever say that about any politician in this country? 40-50 years ago? THAT is pathetic.

I was born at night, but it wasn't last night.
I'm a shade tired, but don't make me pull out links on you.
TexasTowelie
(112,099 posts)There is no reason to pull out links because I am quite capable of doing my own research and forming my own opinion. Thanks for the offer though.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)She helped author it. She praised it.
I am not going to sit here and pretend I have political amnesia.
TexasTowelie
(112,099 posts)She said in the debate that she was against it so I sincerely hope you don't have political amnesia about that statement.
Hillary has been out of office for 2.5 years and I'm certain that the drafts of the TPP changed since she left office 2.5 years ago. It isn't credible for anyone to imply that the draft of the agreement did not change during that time period since it was still being negotiated.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)is that she helped to draft it, evangelized it all over the place and now expects us to believe she doesn't support it.

(39,961 posts)some seem to think that everyone has forgotten her urging for the TPP.
TexasTowelie
(112,099 posts)and people do have her number which is why she is maintaining a comfortable margin over Sanders in the polls. Claiming that Bernie is still on the rise when he has been running for president for six months is meaningless unless you are talking about the 2020 election.

(112,099 posts)Bernie will need to win at least two and probably three of the first four contests (IA, NH, NV and SC) in February though to gain any serious traction though. If he can't accomplish that much then the race could be over as early as Super Tuesday in March.

(39,961 posts)I look forward to the primaries.
Mostly because they could try the patience of Job, and let's get them over with.
The other reason is because I honestly believe I will be backing a candidate, Bernie Sanders, that will be good for our future.

(5,704 posts)It is hard to choose, but for now am going with Mr. Sanders, he was so calm during the debate.
Mind you, I really like Mrs. Clinton, her vote for the Iraq invasion still bodes a no no for me as far as her candicacy is concerned. Invading Iraq was a no no for me.

(5,704 posts)are in line with ours (Canada) with our newly elected Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Having said that, I do not want a republican to take the Presidency of the US, all those guys are not realists and even Ms. Fiorina is not real, they are a bunch of misguided people, who have no clue what the US represents.

(5,704 posts)I cannot donate to Mr. Sanders campaign as I live in Canada. Oh, I know, will have to ask my relatives in the US to vote for him. Gosh, most of them prefer Mrs. Clinton and I have a few who will be voting for Republicans.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)I take my elderly neighbors to the polls, speak up about why I think Bernie is a great candidate, and pretty much keep the fire stoked.
Unless you can drive a bigger vehicle than mine to get even more people to the polls, abd help young people register to vote
It takes effort, but it is worth it to me.
akbacchus_BC
(5,704 posts)However, if you can offer to drive them to vote, that is great. That is what you all need to do to get voters to vote.
It is a long haul, but keeping my fingers crossed that Mr. Sanders win. I do not want to say anything negative about Mrs. Clinton, after all, President Obama choose her as his Secretary of State and that has to count for her credibility. I still dislike her for voting for the Iraq invasion. Enough said!
Aerows
(39,961 posts)but some of them cannot drive anymore. We load up and go to the polls together. Though I swear on all that is holy that you do NOT want to hear the gossip that goes on.
If I have to hear about so-and-so's casserole and how horrible it was, ... well, I keep the faith.
akbacchus_BC
(5,704 posts)Might I add, if they are not voting for a Democrat, leave them at home. One less republican voting is good.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)and they vote democratic, which if you took it on faith is unheard of in MS.
I grin and bear it when the pea casserole comes up, which I have no idea how long they are going to hold that grudge.
