DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s Statement On Labor Day: President Obama Is Fighting for America’s Workers

DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz released the following statement today honoring Labor Day:

“On this Labor Day, we honor the incredible strength and determination of America’s workers, who have laid the foundation on which our country’s middle class is built. From the police officers and firefighters who put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe; construction workers who build our roads, bridges and homes; the emergency room nurse who works through the night to care for the critically injured or sick; or the teacher who wakes up every day committed to providing America’s next generation of workers with the knowledge and skills they need to compete for the jobs of the future—our nation’s workforce is what makes us who we are as a country.

“As we acknowledge the fundamental contributions of America’s workers, we must also recognize the absolutely crucial role that the American labor movement has played in making that work possible. Whether it’s the 40-hour work week, the ban on child labor, establishing a minimum wage, or paid sick leave, the tireless advocacy of organized labor has moved all of us forward as Americans. Thankfully, with President Obama in the White House, we have a leader who understands that and who has always been proud to stand on the side of the American worker. He will continue to do so each and every day in a second term, as we keep moving our country forward with an economy built to last for all Americans.”
