1. My whole political life I keep relearning the lesson that it can, indeed, get worse...

I thought Johnson was evil because he didn't end the war, but then Nixon was elected.

I thought no President could be worse than Nixon, but then Reagan proved me wrong. (I thought Reagan would lose because, having lived under his leadership as governor, Californians would never vote for him, but I was wrong again).

I thought Reagan had to be the worst, but then GW proved me wrong again.

Unfortunately, it can always get worse.
