(36,437 posts)A shitty marketing operation run by anti-Obama extremists. This fucking idiot even showed up on DUer earlier yelping like a stuck pig. Pathetic GOP spin, and nothing more.

(4,551 posts)It is ridiculous to flip out just because a pollster we may not like releases a poll and then accuse someone of ulterior motives just because someone decides to report it here.
progressivebydesign
(19,458 posts)that's what I do. I don't post a poll or source that is unknown, asking what people think. Sadly you got the flak because the tactic of posting republican-pal polls, and feigning ignorance, is a classic troll move.. and has been since the beginning of DU. THat is not what you intended, but you were unfortunately seen with suspicion because of people that do that.
But when in doubt.. everyone needs to take a few minutes to research things before posting... saves the OP lots of grief.

But I will give myself a spanking and not do it again.

(17,564 posts)And tension runs a little high about dubious poll reports in these parts.
TroyD
(4,551 posts)I don't have any angle. I think my pro-Obama credentials are well-established from my other posts, so I don't like your tone.
I asked in my original post whether it was a reliable pollster or not. I did not make a presumption that it was. But since this data is being reported in the media we need to discuss it and know what is going on.

(8,791 posts)But it's a shame that people attack you for posting polls they don't like.
mac56
(17,564 posts)Perhaps the OP did not know this pollster sucks. It may be that he or she was given a favor by having that pointed out.
Just sayin'
woolldog
(8,791 posts)And if someone has a problem with one of them, critique the poll, don't attack him for giving you info you don't like. More information is never a bad thing.
Plus TroyD posts all the polls. He's a poll junkie.
mac56
(17,564 posts)Okee-dokee.
Perhaps some of the responses were trying to spare this OP further embarrassment.
woolldog
(8,791 posts)Why should he be embarrassed, he didn't conduct the poll. He just posted that a new poll had come out. And linked the results.
Suggesting he's not an Obama supporter or a bad Dem or a troll or right wing plant because he posts a poll we don't like isn't "feedback." It's bullying.
Will keep that in mind.
Guess the 2 people above who attacked me haven't seen the 100's of pro-Obama posts I've made, or the thread I posted last night which had Nate Silver's latest prediction of a 76% chance of an Obama win.
Whether we like it or not, RCP and Huffington Post are reporting the Gravis poll and have factored it into their averages, so unfortunately it has brought Obama's numbers down in those states.
Hopefully we'll get some better polling as the DNC proceeds.
progressivebydesign
(19,458 posts)But not what that OP did, but that's how those posts are perceived. It's a classic troll move.. "gosh, just saw this..." Again, not what the OP meant to do, but the pushback has nothing to do with the republican-crony poll, but more about the posting of the poll that could have been easily identified as a republican shill with a few google searches.
woolldog
(8,791 posts)I want to see EVERYTHING. I want to dive into the numbers and evaluate it myself as well as hear what other people have to say about it. So I'm not in favor of self censorship.

(17,564 posts)Therefore a bit of framing about the veracity of this pollster would have gone far.

(31,936 posts)RCP average of polls shows Obama ahead by just 0.7% in Ohio. Two polls show him ahead, two behind, two tied. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/oh/ohio_romney_vs_obama-1860.html

(4,551 posts)Although I don't know if Gravis gets much attention since it's not a well-known pollster and most people haven't heard of it.
I hadn't heard of it before.
The only 'Gravis' I'm familiar with is the monster by that name in the 1984 'Doctor Who' story 'Frontios'. Ever seen it?

(54,280 posts)Rather than first quoting this poll or that, see who relies on it most heavily.
If you google this Gravis poll, you will see that it is heavily trumpeted by a site called "rightspeak.net" and their site is straight out of Karl Rove's smelly back pocket. A typical comment on that site is "Unlike the Obama followers, the Republicans do in fact like to be informed," which is the sort of thing Bill Maher from which likes to makes New Rules concerning allowing people with IQs in single digits to post on your site.
