but some of it is from a few republicans who are SO partisan that even though they may know the facts, they're not willing to give obama credit, they want to "catapult the propaganda", they want to give their guy credit because they think saying so will help their chances in november.

I guess they did not choose to do so in this case.

(52,205 posts)note that one known source of polling error is that if you offer a choice, some people will take it, even if they NEVER would have volunteered it.
ask the question "who wrote the declaration of independence", and let them come up with the names, NO ONE would volunteer josef stalin.
but if you make it a multiple choice and offer:
a) jefferson
b) stalin
c) unsure
i can guarantee you that some non-trivial percentage of americans will answer stalin.
