(4,551 posts)When Kay Hagan runs for re-election in 2014, it will be interesting to see whether she can pull the level of support she did in 2008 when she beat Elizabeth Dole.

(16,399 posts)I doubt Obama wins NC again, but as long as it remains close, it shows how awful a candidate Rmoney is and how he can't win the swing states.

(4,551 posts)I just copied it from their Twitter feed.
Hard to know who will win it if it's this close. Most people didn't expect Obama to win it 4 years ago, but he might be able to do so again if he maintains a solid National lead and has solid debate performances.
Remember that Obama was several points ahead of Romney until May when the gay marriage issue arose.
It may come down to who has the best ground operation.

2. Lots of retirees.
3. Who's the better candidate, Romney or McCain?
How about a 10 day bus tour: Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina. Maybe add Missouri if that state shows any promise.

(25,415 posts)because of different demos and types of voters there. But we can still win in NC. The important thing is Obama has a chance there.

(5,066 posts)Bill Clinton never carried NC In his 2 electoral landslides.I guess as NC has become more democratic In presidential races Clinton
has become more popular.Plus I believe the hispanic population In NC Is growing too.
NC may be one Obama state where supporting gay marrage has helped Romney somewhat.

(4,551 posts)You're right - Bill never won NC, although he came within about 3-5 points I think.
Bill won a lot of other Southern states (eg. Arkansas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky, West Virginia etc.) so perhaps it wasn't a priority of the Clinton campaign since they had other targets, and like you said, the demographics were different then.
Bill also won Missouri and Arizona.
But the numbers above show Bill would easily win in North Carolina today if he could run.

(4,484 posts)...it will not be a cake walk. I see SO many Romney ads compared to Obama ads.
We have to work on getting the vote out in: Charlotte, Raleigh, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Wilmington, Asheville, and High-Point in that order.
If we can get a huge turn out in those cities we will win. Those cities are overwhelmingly Obama, and those are the 7 biggest cities in the state.
