This is a part of the world where the United States has tried to play two different approaches.

One, work with the tough men, the dictators, for our own benefit and promote democracy. That's a hard road to walk. But I think it's the right road for us to try to travel.

Is this really a sane approach to dealing with other nations. Do we really want to work with brutal dictators that oppress their people? Or should we try a different approach like sanctions and discouraging businesses to do business with oppressive regimes?

1. Stability over democracy

Whatever serves the interests of our corporate masters. We have almost always chosen to support dictators and despots instead of democratic movements as long as they bring stability. Of course we have also thwarted many a democratically elected leader through various nefarious means. We have a very long history of this.

Peace

2. Yes

But, I have never seen the philosophy spelled out quite so accurately before. It was startling to say the least.
