Romney defines ‘middle-income’ as between $200,000 and $250,000

By Associated Press, Updated: Friday, September 14, 7:23 AM

BOSTON — Mitt Romney is promising to reduce taxes on middle-income Americans.

But how does he define “middle-income”? The Republican presidential nominee defined it as income of $200,000 to $250,000 a year.

Romney commented during an interview broadcast Friday on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

The Census Bureau reported this week that the median household income — the midpoint for the nation — is just over $50,000.

Hi, I'm Mitt Romney and I just made a foreign-policy statement that was so craven and horrifying--that I will now
pivot to a statement on the economy--that will be equally craven and horrifying.

Holy frickin buckets. We couldn't have picked a better candidate to run against Obama. This man is a walking tornado of fail.

He just solidified the meme about himself--that he has been trying to shirk off for the past two years---that he's an elitist and that he's so wealthy and privileged that he has absolutely no understanding of what the lower 99.9 percent is about.

He just walked right into it and gave Obama a big win in the next news cycle.

I wonder what Romney's next move will be--to deflect from this blunder, "And now for my next trick! I, Mittens the Great will not swim naked in a tank filled with hungry sharks, with steaks strapped to my legs!"

It's so apparent that it's almost comical.

Except that there are still hard-nosed Republicans who will vote for anyone rather than Obama. We cannot let up! I don't care what the polls show, what Mitt does - nothing should make us stop working hard to get Obama re-elected!

{And I know you didn't suggest that we should stop working in your post, so please don't take exception to my comment. I just feel the need to reinforce this (i.e., we can't get overconfident!) at every opportunity.}

• In a recent speech, President Barack Obama referred to the "middle class" 14 times, defining it as a family that makes up to $250,000 a year

Romney said $200-$250 OR LESS, the same as President Obama. Romney is clearly being taken out of context. I think that Romney is a craven lying sack of shit with no empathy. We do not need to lower ourselves to his level, however, i.e. taking clear statements completely out of context, in order to win. Lets keep pointing out the NUMEROUS actual crazy statements and positions he takes.

....apparently having millions of dollars makes one's definition of middle income a 'little off'.

Unfortunately, that would clearly put the rest of us in the 'poor' category, which of course he doesn't have to worry about since we have 'safety nets'.

That statement makes no damn sense!

If one has income of $1 or $26,000 that is not middle income.

That's about how Obama defines it.

So as nice as it would be for Romney to have said between 200k - 250k period, it just ain't so.

But there are still plenty of actual Romney stupids to sink him
