Why Is Romney Expected To Receive Intel Briefings Before the Election (see the link)?

President Obama didn't receive briefings until after he was elected President. This was a big deal in the media, I recall. I looked up a link (just one of several) to verify the timing that I've included. So, tell me, does Gov. Romney have special status over a Senator?

had access to even more sensitive information.

As of now, Mitt should have no access to sensitive information. Prior to the convention he had no "need to know" and had demonstrated a lack of ability to "hold his tongue".

The man is an idiot.

he wanted to be free to attack Carter with any info he got. Maybe Mitt is skipping his "daily intelligence briefings" for that reason. That's ok for him, because already knows it all, but it's a reason to attack Obama, even when it doesn't happen.

I've seen nothing to suggest that Romney is getting anything more than the type of briefing that McCain and Obama received as candidates or that he's going to get the kind of highly classified daily briefings the President (and President-elect) receive.

Once a candidate has received their convention's nomination they are to receive the daily intel briefing. Do you want Obama to ignore a law he signed?

here is an AP link: http://apnews.myway.com/article/20120913/DA192V7G1.html

Senior aides report that the Romney campaign is nearing the conclusion of a required security clearance process. The former Massachusetts governor did not have to request the briefings. They are customary for major-party candidates after their nominating conventions.

For the clarification. I knew if I posted the question here I would be able to get good answers. So, running for President doesn't necessitate a security clearance, but receiving intel does. I wonder if tax records were readily turned over or if the issue was a problem? Just wondering aloud.

This isn't new--McCain got them when he was running, as did Palin.
