If so does that mean Elizabeth Warren could be VP and keep her seat?

That seat is now held by Chis Coons (D-DE) who was elected in 2010. Senate seats that become vacant are filled in the next general election after it becomes vacant.

(3,226 posts)Article 1 section 3 states the following
The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no Vote, unless they be equally divided.
The VP presides over the Senate but has no vote unless it is to break a tie, this would preclude the VP from also acting as a senator from a given State. It would also be a conflict of interest since the President and VP are the top national executives are are supposed to represent the interests of all Americans, while a Senator would likely feel the need to put the interests of their home state first.

(3,226 posts)the only time the president of the Senate votes is in the case of a tie so then Elizabeth would be able to vote as Senator and cast the tie breaking vote as president of the Senate no problem unless it is in the law that a sitting Senator can not hold both jobs.

She would have more power with a Cabinet position anyways. VP is mostly ceremonial.

(10,128 posts)VP selection is aimed at getting more people to support your candidacy. Warren is popular on the left but Bernie or Hillary already have the left they need a VP who will encourage more people to vote for them. That's why Obama picked the very centrist Joe Biden as his VP to balance the ticket.
