WWE Gets YouTube To Take Down Footage

http://www.ctnewsjunkie.com/ctnj.php/archives/entry/wwe_gets_youtube_to_take_down_footage/?utm_source=Friday+Night+Fix+Sept+14%2C+2012&utm_campaign=Friday+Night+Fix+Sept+14+2012&utm_medium=email

If you’re looking online for some of the older footage of World Wrestling Entertainment, you’re not going to find it.

With it’s former CEO, Linda McMahon, running for the U.S. Senate, the publicly traded company has sought to erase some of its raunchier footage from the early days.

“Some of this footage has been misused in political environments without any context or explanation as to when it was produced. This damages the corporate reputation of our company. WWE is well within its rights to protect its intellectual
property for fair use,” Brian Flynn, senior vice president of marketing and communications for the WWE, said Thursday.

McMahon has described the fictional storylines which are part of the wrestling program as “family-friendly.” ................

Just because the video that enraged people didn't, strictly speaking (according to YouTube), violate any rules doesn't mean it shouldn't be removed, as it's deeply inflammatory (to say the least). Can't they make an exception? People have died because of it.

You will not submit falsehoods or misrepresentations that could damage YouTube or any third party.
You will also not submit any material which is obscene, defamatory or otherwise objectionable, or unlawful.

It's an easy bounce. They chose not to.

And man, they went deep. Some Sherri Martel matches from the 80s are gone, Alundra Blayze vs. Bertha Faye.

Like Dick "The Bruiser" beating some guy over the head with a steel folding chair? Or, "The Sheik" apparently gouging a guy's eyes out with a pencil?

That's what I would want my children to see.

Fuck the McMahon's. They became rich by promoting rubbish violence to redneck trailer trash.

I stand by my post. The McMahon's are sleazy trash whose sole product is sleazy trash. Now they want to bring that sleaze to the US Senate.

I would hang an effigy of Dick "The Bruiser" (or whoever is the big, bad guy is today) around her smarmy neck. And I would ask the not so rhetorical question, Do we want to turn the US Senate into the WWF?

I despise the McMahons and every smarmy thing they stand for. And WWF is garbage targetted at bottom feeders. But that's just my opinion.

a lot of their wrestling product is geared towards pretty much everyone, with their latest version, which is far more family friendly than they've been in the past, geared towards children. Yeah, it's violent, but most media tends to be. Ironically, I feel that they're not using their current TV-PG rating to its fullest. And there's no need for the sarcasm.

I don't want to turn the Senate into the WWE, and I wouldn't vote for Linda if I lived in Conn. if my life depended on it, but that doesn't mean that I can't watch their wrestling and enjoy it. I am far from a redneck or a "bottom feeder" in your words.

Respectfully. I don't malign people for their choice of entertainment. But I stand by my characterizations of the McMahons and their garbage so-called sport. It may be fun even when you know it's just theater.

That shit certainly not targetted at the educated, in spite that some educated may find it fun to watch. It is nothing but "bread and circuses" with fake blood instead of the real thing.

I guess I just don't think such things are very entertaining. You may disagree. So be it.

I don't know how you can "respectfully" call people bottom feeders. I don't watch wrestling and I don't care if you do or don't but there was a time when I watched it with my daughter when she was a kid because she liked it. She knew it was fake and still enjoyed it. You called my daughter a bottom feeder. But hey, you did it "respectfully"...

...he didn't say that only bottom feeders watch it. The fact that educated, sensible, intelligent people, including you and your daughter may also watch it is probably a "bonus" in the McMahon's eyes. He never said it was directed toward you and your daughter.

I think the statement he made is totally correct. The WWE material is indeed "directed toward bottom feeders".

I've been a long time fan of their entertainment. My boyfriend is also a fan.

You can be a fan and not support the McMahon's politically. Not all wrestlers are the way you describe. Mick Foley is a gay rights activist and their recent WWE champion Daniel Bryan is a vegan.

The main reason the McMahons are republican are because they are rich. Linda had previously stated that she was pro-choice.

I still don't support her for election though.

But don't stereotype.

Everyone who watches knows it is a SHOW.

True, but if one is a fan they are supporting the McMahon's political agenda and campaign. She is funding her campaign using the $Millions she received through her "entertainment". She is using that money acquired through her "entertainment" to smear Chris Murphy through exaggerations, misrepresentations, and outright eyes.

So, those who are fans of the WWF are indirectly supporting her campaign and, should she win, her political agenda.

PS - Those who watched "Deep Throat" and "Behind the Green Door" (the only two titles I can think of) knew they "were only a show", but they are still smut.

Her wrestling shows don't bother me, it is her views that are disgusting. Though why she is running away from the "Attitude" years that made her all the money is a good laugh. That is when the WWE was actually good, when it was the WWF. Now it is all watered down crap. No more tables, ladders and chairs, huh Linda?
I saw her at J. Timothy's once, a restaurant in Southington. Should have told her to stick to the WWE. Now that she is running constantly for Senator her product is dull.

The way Linda McMahon got rich should be as well known as the way Mitt Romney got rich.

Maybe that's over the top...Romney's company destroyed the lives of whole communities with his LBOs, while McMahon's company only destroyed the lives of its own employees with steroids.

29. I thought WWE was proud of it's "Attitude" past?

Sep 2012

There was a time in the mid-to-late 90's where WWE was not much more than softcore porn and lewd jokes sold to a teenage boy audience. Critics were laughed at by Vince and others in his corporate employ as people who just didn't "get it". They even produced a Super Bowl commercial one year with the main tagline being "Get it?". So that was their outlook at the time. They loved the Attitude Era, and loved pushing it as far as they could get away with. Now, all of a sudden Linda McMahon runs as a Republican so they scrub their Attitude-loving past and try to disassociate themselves with it? I am not buying that at all.
