IMO, he does not believe what he says, or at least not to the extent he sometimes says it. It seems to me, for him, it's good business. I doubt he believes Obama is a socialist, but his audience does, so hey, why not.

Any half-educated person with an ounce of natural curiosity would never in a million years believe that the President is a socialist. O'Reilly, whatever we think of his character, is certainly not an idiot. He is merely playing a character on TV, a character that rewards him with an incredible amount of wealth and respect. Night after night, he just picks on an angle that will resonate most strongly with his bigoted base.

I think this interview scratches the surface of the real O'Reilly.

A real right wing ideologue would never say that. An actor though, would.
