Iowa Families First Crowd demands to know, "Where is Clinton?"

With Clinton out of sight, some voters chose to vocalize their lack of enthusiasm for the female front-runner. A small "Where is Clinton" chant between O'Malley's and Sanders' appearances quickly grew into a loud affair, involving most of the room.

http://whotv.com/2016/01/09/omalley-sanders-answer-iowans-questions-at-family-forum-saturday/

So, where was Clinton?

Recovering from a couple days of rich-only fundraising in Los Angeles, apparently:

Clinton today will also conduct what is billed as a "family celebration" at the Jim Henson Co. studio lot in Hollywood.

Tickets are priced at $500. Individuals donating $1,000 will receive one adult ticket and a ticket for a individual under 16 years old. Donors contributing $2,700 will receive one adult ticket and two tickets for individuals under 16 years old, according to information posted on the website PoliticalPartyTime.org which tracks political fundraisers.

The maximum individual contribution under federal law for a candidate seeking his or her party's presidential nomination is $2,700.

Clinton will be joined by Berkshire Hathaway Chairman and CEO Warren Buffett at an evening reception at the L.A.-area home of City National Bank Chairman and CEO Russell Goldsmith and his wife, Karen.

Tickets are $2,700, according to an invitation obtained by City News Service. Individuals raising $10,000 will be co-hosts of the event and have a photo taken with Clinton.

A "families celebration" that costs $500 to get in.

I don't know about you, but $500 is far more than most pay a month for a car or nearly half a house payment for MOST families.

It was well worth it to me; I was very glad to be able to see him up close, speak to him one on one.

I was more affluent back then. I'm actually in decent financial shape, but I must and do live a bit more frugally than a decade or so ago. I donate to Bernie, but I'm not sure how much I'd be willing to pay to see him. But much more to the point, I don't think he's doing any of those pay-to-see him things, is he?

But, since we're on that subject, let's compare missed votes:

From Jan 2001 to Jan 2009, Clinton missed 249 of 2,616 roll call votes, which is 9.5%. This is much worse than the median of 2.0% among the lifetime records of senators serving in Jan 2009. The chart below reports missed votes over time.

https://www.govtrack.us/congress/members/hillary_clinton/300022

From Jan 2007 to Dec 2015, Sanders missed 102 of 2,835 roll call votes, which is 3.6%. This is worse than the median of 1.7% among the lifetime records of senators currently serving. The chart below reports missed votes over time.

https://www.govtrack.us/congress/members/bernard_sanders/400357

While both missed more than the average, Sanders missed quite a lot less than Clinton.

Good for Clinton NOT showing up.

Overview

Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement (ICCI) was founded in 1975 to assist low-income Iowans with predatory lending, unscrupulous car dealers, home ownership, and personal money management. Since its founding, however, ICCI has discovered that real power in Iowa lies beyond the city limits. In the last decade, the organization’s priorities have shifted away from defending the urban poor to more politically lucrative attacks against what its activists term “factory farms.” In making this shift, the group also started charging dues for the first time. Once three-quarters urban in its membership, ICCI is now mostly comprised of rural Iowans seeking to hop on the pro-“family farm,” anti-“factory farm” bandwagon.

ICCI is comprised of just 2,000 Iowans, but the frequency with which they protest and lobby is intended by its professional leaders to create the public perception of a much larger membership. They are a tiny but extremely vocal minority who consistently push for sweeping regulations on Iowa’s 90,000 farms — except for the ones owned by ICCI members.
